I use an HP Envy Photo 6255 all-in-one printer, printing is no issue. However I can't figure out scanning. I've tried installing HPLIP, but the correct driver still seems to elude me. Is there an easy way to set up this scanner on Solus? I've got hp-uiscan, but still can't connect. I'm this close holds up thumb and index finger closely to transitioning the whole family to Linux, the scanner is one of the last hang ups.
Buying a new printer isn't an option, and it's very needed for school work and such.

Brucehankins I can't figure out scanning
If your printer has a USB port, just tell it to scan to that as its output. I have a different HP all-in-one, and that's always worked for me. It beats spending hours trying to figure out how to get something else to work right.
WetGeek I'll give that a go. It's set up as a network printer now, but I'm sure I've got a USB cable laying around for it.
at hp's website:
*there is no linux driver available for the 6255 according the them
*HP claims the TWO hplip packages in solus would be sufficient
*I don't believe them and would install sane-backends from repo to be sure
*HP also claims its "all-in-ones" can be installed into linux this way: https://123.hp.com/us/en/
I've mapped local ip printer addresses (found at ifconfig? forget) into printer settings to print to port X directly, like WetGeek is describing, with success. But never tried this with a scanner. Why not? Try it. I believe what he is saying is find the ip address of the plugged in device and plug it into solus printer settings which has a 'destination' field if I recall right. WetGeek if I interpeted that wrong I apologize to both of you.
Brucehankins That's not what I had in mind. My printer will scan things to a flash drive in the USB socket. From there, it's easy to do anything you want with it. No cable needed.
