Systemd offers a new service for managing home directories (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd-homed). One advantage is the possibility to encrypt home directories and not the whole root file system. Any plans for Solus to support this?
Will Solus support systemd-homed
I have seen this and hope solus will add homed, another use could be migrating systems without losing your home directory as all user information is stored separately.
In it's current state, systemd-homed
is a jumbled mess. When I saw Lennart's original talk on it, I was shocked that he released it in the state it was in. Especially considering it can't even handle something as simple as key-based SSH auth. If you want an encrypted homedir, ecryptfs
has a much longer (and better) track record and is on my list of things to look at for the next version of the installer.
The guys at Ubuntu dont have a good opinion on ecryptfs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/1756840). That being said, any chance to have fscrypt support?
2 years later, any chance to enable systemd-homed in Solus? I dual boot with Windows and would really like to have my home dir encrypted.
