Vesa Adaptive Sync Desktop Flicker

I noticed VRR works on the desktop when moving the cursor causing the screen to flicker. On Windows the screen just locks itself at selected refresh rate until games are launched.

I noticed this happens on Budgie, Gnome and Plasma on all distros I've tried so far except Tumbleweed. Using both AMD and nVidia cards when enabling Vesa Adaptive Sync. Yesterday I tried out openSUSE Tumbleweed with Plasma 5.19.2 and noticed the desktop behavior is the same as Windows which I would say is the expected behavior. I'm going to attempt to try to see if I can test another distro with Plasma 5.19.2. Has this issue been reported? I'm having no luck with Google and KDE's Plasma 5.19.2 release notes don't mention it.

WannaBeOCer I have exactly the same behavior with NVIDIA and free sync monitor, I thought I was alone with this. Seeing plasma 5.19.2 fixes it as you're saying, we'll have to wait either for tomorrow or next Monday til we see the results. The developers posted on their blog that these updates are coming on those days. 😁

Framani I'm on unstable and 5.19.2 didn't resolve it. I installed KDE Neon and it also works as expected. Fedora 32 with Gnome 3.36.3 also works as expected.

I guess it has to do with the way the compositor in plasma works or the implementation solus devs are employing. Too bad too hear that I too had high hopes for it to be resolved.

Submitted issue: https://dev.getsol.us/T9163, noticed the issue mainly occurs when ever the desktop hits 40 FPS which triggers low framerate compensation on my monitor.

Still having this frustrating issue using Adaptive Sync with all DE flavors. When using my Titan RTX I get a frustrating black screen flash while compared to my Radeon VII which causes flickering when having Vesa Adaptive Sync enabled. If I turn off Vesa Adaptive Sync the black screen issue stops on Nvidia and same with the AMD flickering issue. I again tried Ubuntu, openSUSE TumbleWeed, Fedora 35, KDE Neon and Manjaro and the only difference I see is that those distros don't have Adaptive Sync enabled on the desktop but work in games. This behavior is only on the desktop, once games are launched Vesa Adaptive Sync works fine on Solus.

I noticed in the opening post I wrote "all distros" this should have been Solus flavors. I installed Budgie on a second hard drive and am still encountering the same frustrating black screen flash when launching certain apps. On Solus Plasma it's much more frustrating since it occurs when opening the application launcher along with the notifications in the bottom right. Tried multiple different 1.4 DP cables and they that didn't change the behavior.
