I would like to install scanner drivers for an Epson DS-30 portable document scanner. I have installed Utsushi but there appears to be no driver support for this scanner. I can download linux drivers from Epson, but have no idea how to install them on Solus Budgie without breaking anything. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help with this.

I have tried two other portable scanners by other brands and so far none have worked with Solus.

install iscan and sane-backends from repo, reboot, and try again. you need a plugin I think, not necessarily a driver, again, I think.
if what you need is not in the iscan then you might have to manually move stuff from the rpm or deb pack furnished by epson some folders on solus.
read also search results I found: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=linux+epson+ds30&t=vivaldi&ia=web&iai=r1-4&page=1&sexp={"v7exp"%3A"a"%2C"rgiexp"%3A"b"%2C"fexp"%3A"a"%2C"bfexp"%3A"b"}

all scanners and linux are a headache, frustrating, but ultimately do-able

    brent I did install those prior to asking for help and did a thorough search online. I don't know how to manually move things or where to move them. I've broken the system before while attempting to do so.

    This is essentially the same problem I had with the other scanners I've tried. The drivers are available for Linux but no one is able to explain in a simple way to me how to use them on Solus. On another distribution I'm sure it would be no problem.

    the second half of this thread (https://discuss.getsol.us/d/4269-utsushi-scanner-install-not-going-good-at-all/39) has simple descriptions and pictures about which files to move.

    get the iscan-ds-30-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb download and extract. I think you might need a couple things in there.

    EDIT: I'd feel more comfortable with giving advices like this if I (we) knew what your terminal errors say when trying to connect with the machine. i.e., type utsushi into terminal, what does it say? same with iscan, etc.

    Yeah, that's definitely not simple. I can't even follow what is going on in that thread and I've read it several times. Linux people sometimes don't understand how foreign this all is for the average person.

    I have the DEB file. Inside the file is a few folders with more deb files inside those folders. Inside them a bunch of random files that I don't know that to do with and don't match anything in that thread.

    Yes that DS30 folder is a mixed bag and doesn't resemble the folder in that other thread.
    The readme file reveals an install script for the terminal, but unsure it would work in Solus.
    Hang in there, epson scanners are a popular thread and someone will chime in clearer than I.

    I apologize as I did not mean to present myself as a 'linux person' and engage in any insincere way. I'm pretty much a linux-illiterate "average person" in many ways (who has installed a printer or two), so I don't believe I patronized you in the least. Sorry if that's how it appeared to you.
