vyzle Has anyone else on Plasma noticed a slower boot time?
Like you, I've been a Budgie fan for a long time. When I first tried Plasma, there were just too many warts to ignore. Finally I decided that a lot of those had probably been fixed, and tried it again. I swapped the SSD in my Budgie laptop for an empty 250GB SSD, and installed Plasma today.
So far, I haven't noticed any of the slowness that I'd always expected from KDE/Plasma on other distros, including no particular slowness in startup. Are you running on an SSD or a spinner?
I just ran systemd-analyze:
systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 7.217s (firmware) + 149ms (loader) + 906ms (kernel) + 2.256s (initrd) + 748ms (userspace) = 11.279s
graphical.target reached after 742ms in userspace
EDIT: For comparison, here's what I got while running Budgie:
systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 904ms (kernel) + 2.235s (initrd) + 815ms (userspace) = 3.954s
graphical.target reached after 798ms in userspace
Wow! I didn't have a chance to compare those until just now (still configuring Plasma). Although the displays aren't easy to compare, it seems like Plasma beats Budgie in at least some ways.
