I will be updating us to 3.34.0 though, to answer your question. This GNOME release is pretty tame, so it's more just a time sink than anything else.

I don't know why you quoted that, it has nothing to do with your question. We're now on 3.36.2 and libhandy is still a hard no.

gnome-contacts and gnome-games: Now requires libhandy, a mobile-focused UI library built by Purism and currently considered unstable. Not only do we largely not accept the usage of unstable libraries in the repository, but having applications which target or force the installation of mobile UXs or their libraries is not acceptable, considering we are solely focused on modern home computing devices (laptops and desktops).

Solus team gets to decided what is or is not in the repository. Several applications have been either rejected for inclusion, held back from newer versions or kicked from the repository due to requiring libhandy.

Of course it is theoretically possible those in control could change their mind on this but I would not hold your breath.

For those who stumble upon this place by chance, Contacts and Geary are on Flathub. They work well.
Geary is more stable and faster (in particular, the search function) with the 3.36.2 version.

I understand somehow the reasoning behind not adding libhandy to the Solus repository. But it looks like that it is used more and more in other projects too such as newer releases of Deja-Dup.

@JoshStrobl Does this means that we have to use Snap or Flatpack packages in the future when we want to use the newer versions of such apps or do we give in at some point?

maveonair Been using the flatpak versions of Deja-Dup and Pika Backup for a few months now, no issues. Things just work. +1 for flatpaks
