When trying to receive my location in Firefox, it is not working.
Even after allowing location access,.... .
I think it is an old bug that was fixed for ubuntu a while ago (3-4months).
The googleapi under about:config -> geo.network.provider.url
is just incorrect or not longer working.
If you enter the mozilla geo location api instead, it is working again.

This is the bug (which is fixed on other Linux versions) https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1610306

Thanks, please file a bug on our development tracker. It is linked in the header of the forum.

For info Google Location Services (GLS) will not work on Solus because we haven't requested an API key yet; instead you have to use the Mozilla Location Services (MLS).

I thought the key for the default provider was geo.wifi.uri but Mozilla likes to change things and they might now use geo.network.provider.url instead. To be checked.

After the last updates, I'm no longer able to use Firefox to stream YouTube TV for local stations. I get a notification that YouTube can't discover my location, so it is unable to provide local stations. I have to use Google Chrome instead.

Is this the same problem as in this thread?

kyrios the geolocation is currently broken

Any chance it will be fixed in tomorrow's update, or is it a complex issue?

It's not the end of the world if it takes a while. Using Chrome just gives me indigestion.

WetGeek To be quite frank, I haven't even started looking at it yet. The best chance to get someone looking at it is to get it reported on the dev tracker as @JoshStrobl said earlier.

        6 days later

I will submit a bug report during the weekend, just didn't have the time yet.

I should also be able to fix it if people let me, as I am a developer as well.

          12 days later

@JoshStrobl Hi Josh, could we talk somewhere?
          I finally submitted a bug report: https://dev.getsol.us/T9078
However at the moment I am not familiar with your (solus team) work culture and bug reporting Style.
Maybe my bug report is not described well enough, or there are tags and so on missing. Would be nice to receive an update on this matter.

2nd: I think the bug is fixed when building Firefox from source.
3rd: I would like to fix the bug, however, I think in the beginning I would need some guidance and help doing so.
(How to submit the patch, ....) Basically I don't know how I can contribute to solus as a software developer.

Wasn't this fixed in the current package? That was the reason I couldn't get local TV channels from tv.youtube.com. This week's update was the first time that FireFox was providing geolocation data that made YouTube happy. I mentioned that it is now working in a different thread on the topic.

huebi To contribute to Solus, start here: https://getsol.us/articles/packaging/

In my opinion, the most important docs are:

Also, spend some time just watching the activity flow at https://dev.getsol.us/ It is usually busiest Thursday and Friday as the Friday update is readied.

Just to clarify, and in case it helps with debugging:

What I said here was TRUE at the time I wrote that, however several days later Firefox stopped behaving this way. Apparently Google Chrome had installed something that continued providing location information for some time after Google Chrome was removed from my system.

And after that time, Firefox stopped working in this situation. Only Google Chrome allows Google TV to provide geolocation information once more.

Good luck getting Firefox to work correctly. I'd love to remove Google Chrome again, but still want access to our local TV channels. That, or I'll soon need a divorce.
