To back up or not to back up?

I just sold my CPU+MB - i7 6700k + Asrock extreme 7+ with high hopes that it should be soon replaced by a Ryzen 7.

Now rationally speaking I backed up my important information. My settings however are just the tedious part which is why i'm wondering if this solution, a radical one, is even "possible"

would it be even possible to just swap parts and still boot up? (i would expect it to only CLI and then id have to play with parameters the least)

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Well, the only issue should be your GPU, if you're keeping the same one, I don't see much issue. The kernel is build to accomodate your hardware modularly, no issue there.

This isn't Windows (for which we can be glad, eh?)

Always backup, try swap parts, if it doesn't work, re-install and then restore your preferences / files from backup.
