I, for one, have never seen icons of any kind with the category names. Perhaps you're remembering a different menu on another distribution?

Categories icons in Brisk menu were present before and are present after today's Mate upgrade. Nothing changed in Brisk menu, it remains untouched.

Try to use another icon theme. Edit: Preferably, from another "family" of icon themes.

cefaleia this just shows you have no favorites... Add something in the favorites and you'll get icons there...

There has never been icons for categories under Budgie. Maybe @kyrios can take a look at the situation under Brisk Menu on MATE, but I'd double check that you don't have any broken packages. Run the command at the top of https://getsol.us/articles/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/en/

I use MATE for my media server, and I can confirm that there are indeed icons in the categories list, and I've applied today's updates. I didn't think of checking that at first, 'cause the image in the first message looked like a Budgie DE.

EDIT: I also believe there may be package(s) broken.

WetGeek yes the image is budgie, thought that also had icons, but on Mate they're missing after update. The thing is I didn’t touched anything, just fresh install and then installed all updates that software center had

Well, if nothing is broken, that is odd. Brisk menu in Mate continues to present categories icons, as usual.

I'd try to do three things.

Remove icon theme cache

sudo rm /usr/share/icons/[icon-theme-folder-name]/icon-theme.cache

for eample, for Papirus icon theme it will look like:

sudo rm /usr/share/icons/Papirus/icon-theme.cache

Reinstall Brisk menu package

sudo eopkg install --reinstall brisk-menu

Re-run universal system config tool with all triggers

sudo usysconf run --force

Just a shot in a dark.

Hi, thanks for helping me. I run this commands but didn't solved the issue. The odd thing is that only the categories icons are missing, the application icons are present.

kyrios I suspect that his after-install update probably timed out, leaving him with a partial update, and he didn't realize that.

Okay I finally understood the issue... I didn't see the side icons on the favorite menu on the screen of my smartphone 😅

If checking & fixing broken packages did not help, here is something else you can try:

For Budgie, could you try to restore the panel defaults ?

For MATE, go in Appearance -> Customize -> Icons. Try to select something else then the icons set you normally use to force the system to reload them.
Still in Appearance you can navigate to Interface and uncheck and check the Show icons in menus box

If it doesn't help after checking again your system is fully up-to-date (which is already the case according to what I understood), you can run the command sudo usysconf run -f

For some folks. I use MATE for a media server that's never been modified beyond scheduled updates. Its menu has icons on both sides. The true answer must involve peripherals, drivers, and perhaps other things, too.

There are three menu applets in Solus Mate:

Brisk Menu
Compact menu
Classic Menu

App categories and their icons are absolutely identical for all three.

Please, add Compact Menu applet to the panel. Are categories icons missing or present in Compact Menu?
