Snoober It just kicked me again with flatpak discord.. Its something to do with discord team.

laky I'd suggest like Josh said to report it to them.

Justin I am now waithing for them to answer , with info i gathered so far.
Tnx to Josh for pointing that out. 🙂

I got an answer from Discord team via email i send them. This is what they replied:

I'm very sorry to hear that you're having trouble using the Discord app while playing games within your Linux machine.

Could you please try to completely uninstall the client and reinstall it through the use of sudo make uninstall in your distro's terminal?

If you continue to experience this same issue with our updater upon reinstall, let's see if the issue persists in our Public Test Build. You can grab our PTB client here!
      If you're using Deb: https://discordapp.com/api/download/ptb?platform=linux&format=deb

      If you're using Tar.gz: https://discordapp.com/api/download/ptb?platform=linux&format=tar.gz

Here's also Github with some common fixes to some of the issues in the Linux version https://github.com/simoniz0r/Discord-Linux-Client-Issues.

Give these steps a shot and let me know how it goes.

I wonder is it safe to use this tar.gz and compile it in Solus, in other words how would this work?
Edit: Safe thing aside, i have run it and going to test it from there.

I can confirm Discord crashes incessantly and dozens of other people have come out of the woodwork to report it, which is a Discord problem. I am posting here to say @laky that I stopped the crashing on my system by turning ON 'Minimize to tray' (ENABLE). lol Hope that narrows down workarounding on Solus.

JohannPopper Hey funny thing is that probably won't stop it from crashing, but the most recant info about a workaround that i got involves couple more things to be disabled atleast it did for me. If you get anymore crashes try this:
Voice & Video - For INPUT SENSITIVITY and disable "Automatically detemine input sensitivity." (set it yourself)

"OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco System, Inc." (disable)

                               "H.246 Hardware Acceleration" (disable)

"Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority" (disable)

Notifications - "Enable Desktop Notifications" (disable)

                             "Enable Unread Message Badge"(disable)

Game Activity - (have this disabled at all times)

Streamer Mode - "Enable Streamer Mode" (disable)

                                 "Automatically Enable/Disable" (disable)

                                 "Disable Notifications" (disable)

Hope it helps! 🙂 (Notifications having disabled is 99% of the problem which fixes it,well maybe...)
Edit: This is just my settings not sure is all of this needed, 'Minimize to tray' is enabled for me too but that alone didn't fixed it.

Just want to state that I am not installing the discord app once it is fixed. I am using Ripcord now and my friends asked "are you using Windows again? The sound is much better now".

        For context:
I had a lot of trouble with sound quality with Discord since I started with Linux (12+ months ago). Steam voice chat was the goto option when it was just too bad for my pals to content with me in the Discord channel.

sgvd Can't say I've ever had audio quality issues with Discord that weren't because of a crappy mic.

          • sgvd replied to this.

I've had the same issue for awhile. Ripcord works a lot better, but not as stable as in a browser and no video call capability. Just found this claiming that it might have to do with the package "libappindicator", so it seems it might be related to notifications. People say uninstalling that package might help but I don't really know if that's safe.

hdansin That would be truly odd if sound quality issues were caused by libappindicator as it has nothing to do with sound.

Justin I was referencing the crashes (probably should've specified that). Personally I haven't had that many issues with sound quality.

I obviously tried a few different mic+soundcard combinations before concluding Discord is just not that good (for my tried options). Ripcord for some reason just sounds better.
(also, on Windows it's fine, hence the 'Are you currently on Windows?' comment)

This is all based on my friends' responses, so obviously I cannot be 100% certain they are wrong in their experience with my voice clarity.
It's just annoying as all these sound issues more or less convinced them that Windows is just way better than Linux in everyting, even if in the end it's not linux, but a shitty app that causes it.

sgvd Discord uses Opal which is a bit more CPU intensive. That on top of WebRTC definitely doesn't help if your machine happens to be on the slower side.

It's my gaming rig, so that is not the issue (Ryzen 5 1600), although I appreciate the debugging suggestion. There was one part of my rig that actually did cause an issue in the beginning (motherboard in-build sound is unusably bad, even on windows), however I haven't used that ever since I started debugging this.

I am not sure about all the technical background of the apps. I only hear that app A and B make me sound better than app C, so I conclude app C is worse than the former two. That's it.

I've been facing the same issue.
You can try some of these steps one of them actually helped me fix the issue.
Try disabling hardware acceleration from the settings in the appearance section
Enable legacy in the audio subsystem
Try clearing cache or Reinstall discord and turn off compatibility mode from the discord properties.
This one helped me and fixed discord crashing issue on my pc. I found all of these posts here ( https://droidtheory.com/fix-discord-keeps-crashing/ ) You can check the whole process their if you have any confusion
                    PS 🙂

                    2 years later

Solus has been acting strange for the past month. When i log into Discord, and go to a chatroom the outputs for Audio disappear, and it begins to make screeching noise. The camera inputs also intermittently come and go. when i use OBS, i have to go back after tuning off discord and reboot PC, and turn on OBS, and reset/adjust all the inputs.
The OS is stable when using OBS by itself, but not both.
On another note, the background image and config settings on my Samsung monitor only work half of the time.
Attempting to remedy that i've gone to the main settings and made adjustments, rebooted and....nothing.
Please Help/Advise regarding that which pertains to Solus?
Thank you for all you guys do!

That sounds like a hardware config problem to me, but I have also never tried to run discord + OBS. If you run discord in a web browser, does it still have problems?

I stopped using the native client because I was tired of crashes and troubleshooting, and running it in a web browser has been a lot more stable.

P.S. For future reference, it is common practice to create a new thread rather than reviving an old one on the forum.

hdansin Up until December of last year, i have never had any issues with my hardware running either windoze or Solus Plasma, Solus being what i most often stream with OBS to twitch with. Starting a new thread is nice, but if its overlooked or ignored, then it servers no purpose.
