Anyone else suddenly getting screen tearing since latest update?

Drewfus Okay , well good luck with that. I am aswell using first gen ryzen but i didn't notice any tearing from the update.

I'm not sure how much help I'll be as I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy user out there, but whenever I've had screen tearing issues in the past, it related to the desktop environment I was running. More specifically, whatever my desktop environments compositing software was. What desktop environment are you using?

Try this

create a file inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ named 99-amdgpu.conf with the content

Section "OutputClass"
        Identifier "AMDgpu"
        MatchDriver "amdgpu"
        Driver "amdgpu"
    Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

then reboot

fixed tearing of my 5700xt

Girtablulu thanks for that. i had some minor mini tearing near the top of the screen that didnt bother me , but that took care of that!
its officially better that my nvidia with proprietary drivers now which also had mini mini tearing.

so far so good, Thanks! Ran a 1440 screen tearing etc test, seems good. I will try some Plex streaming and the ilk full screen to be sure.

Girtablulu I tried to figure out how to do this by myself but unfortunately I'm very new to Linux and no joy. i tried to create the file with notepadqq but it said permission denied and couldn't find a way to save the file with root privilages, i tried to create the file through the terminal using sudo echo but then encountered other problems.
could you please inform me how i should create this file. thank you in advance.

Girtablulu I just noticed the issue today on my computer when watching video in fullscreen (using Gnome MPV). This fixed it, thank you.

Here are the relevant parts of my setup:

Solus Budgie (up to date)
1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitor
RX 5700 connected to monitor through DP

YT has a few up to 1080, I have 1440, 2k and 4k ones that came within some editing program on mac or pc that I keep on my hard drive for testing purposes.
so to sum up, issue sorted using that config file ( sudo nano 99-amdgpu.conf from within destination folder, paste in text, save close and reboot).

Diggis Easy way should be that you navigate yourself to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ file after that right click and open a terminal in there , use cmd sudo touch 99-amdgpu.conf hit enter , after that use cmd sudoedit 99-amdgpu.conf use the text that was given in previous post if your gpu is amd and just " ctrl+x , save Y " reboot your pc
Edit : It is also possible to navigate with terminal and cmd cd /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

laky sudoedit was the piece of the puzzle i was missing, all good now thank you!

If it's only in firefox, then switch HW acceleration in firefox about:config page. Mostly tearing is due to firefox not system-wide, so first check which one you have.

I just recognized this issue but it's only happening when I use Vivaldi web browser.

Youtube has weird purple streaks through it and when I use Twitter I am noticing issues with the screen tearing or jumbling up when I run my mouse over certain parts of the screen.

I haven't noticed this happening when I use video though. Just started happening.
