OpenCL with Ryzen APU

Hi there,

I just built a new system based on a Deskmini A300 and a Ryzen 3 2200G. While the installation and usage with Solus worked well, it seems that OpenCL isn’t available.

According to the Software Center the package xorg-driver-video-amdgpu is installed. Any advice, how to get OpenCL working?

fjaellraev We only currently support OpenCL via Beignet on Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs via the proprietary driver. Unfortunately, ROCm is not yet in a state where it is easily built from source, Clover in Mesa is not yet ready for prime-time, and POCL hasn't landed in the repos.

adurante Maybe on Windows, but on Linux it's fine with ROCm. I think it's more likely that AMD deprecated support for older CPUs to focus development efforts.

[deleted] Please avoid necroing older threads. There has been a community effort to get ROCm working, but I think in general OpenCL support is still quite broken.

I've been working on and off on ROCm for some time. As of now pocl works fine on CPU on my system, but without AMD GPUs support the performance isn't good enough to justify using OpenCL (it's basically worse than just using the CPU backend of most software).

As of now, I'm waiting for AMD to support NAVI10 in ROCm to test pocl+HSA, don't really know when it'll happen! In the meantime you can follow our efforts to port ROCm here: https://github.com/emaimx/Solus-ROCm-build
