Hmm, I thought it would be relevant to mention why I use HTOP. In this case, the reason it's advantageous to use it over a GUI option, is because I use it with Guake - a dropdown terminal (it drops with the F12 key).
I've set htop to launch in Guake on system startup, by adding a new menu item using Menu Libre with the command guake -e htop
and then added it to startup applications in GNOME tweak tool.
This way I don't have to remember to open guake with htop, simply whenever I press F12 it always appears.
It came in handy with some games when they crashed / freezed, and had total control of window management (couldn't alt tab etc), because the drop down terminal still worked, and I was able to kill the offending process.
