Upgrades of installed third-party packages

Hi,
I use Plex Media Server. I installed it and everything was ok but it seems that the update has to be done manually. Is that so? Why, once installed, doesn't the update detection process include these packages as well?

If you want to automate third party installation & update via command line there's this (third party & unofficial) tool.
The syntax is pretty the same as eopkg, so once installed with a sudo eopkg up && sudo eopkg3p up you will update everthing at once.
Obviously, once the current 3rd-party will be overhauled things will change.

You could well say it's a defect in packaging/upgrade strategy by Plex (and I do). Yes, I have to manually install it on my server (FreeBSD), it's a fairly constant pain. There is no technical reason the web interface can't handle the upgrade.
However, as you remarked it is a 3rd party, and not part of Solus in any way. So, ask Plex?

Yes, this is normal as it is a completely different and legacy system. It isn't like the binary repository where we have a centralized index that we can compare currently installed packages against. Ideally a lot of that will go away when the majority of 3rd-party software is moved to snaps and flatpaks, since the future Software Center will support those.

Hi Josh, does that mean solus software center will support snaps and flatpaks in the near future? I love solus budgie but the only thing keeping me back is it does not support some critical software that I use like Megasync, expressvpn etc...

Hate to necro an old thread but I installed and made that tool executable like it says on its page but when I try to run the command on zsh terminal it says sudo: eopkg3p: command not found

Am I missing something incredibly obvious? I was hoping to add this to a terminal alias I have that updates everything eopkg, flatpack, and then the third party software.

Well if they support snap and flatpak nothing is stopping you from using snap or flatpak in the CLI and getting them already. If they don't, then us supporting snap and flatpak via the Software Center isn't going to change anything.

adurante Shouldn't need to add it to your path if it was installed using pip.

Justin this is correct and how I got it working rather than making a manual path edit

Initially I had followed the instructions that occurred first but the pip install is much better haha
