Hello everybody, and sorry if this subject has already been discussed.
I've been using Solus for several years, and it's still my daily distro, which I use with a great, great pleasure; everything works fine for me. But I think it would be nice, once we launched the USB stick, DVD ROM or whatever needed to install Solus, and once we see the desktop, that there would be an "INSTALL" icon on the desktop, like any other distro does. I think it's really a pain in the *ss to have to search into the menu, in order to launch the install. I also think it is a no go for beginners willing to use Solus, but unable to install it. Just my two cents, but each time I install Solus on a new computer (and this happens often nowadays, since I am an enthousiastic buyer of old Thinkpads ^^), I think "Oh yes, i MUST go into the menu to install it."

It is the first icon in the budgie panel, right next to the budgie desktop icon. If you hover the mouse over the icon it does say install. I'm not unfamiliar to Linux but I didn't find it very hard to find or had to open the menu.

There should be an install icon at top left on the desktop

I installed many times Solus 4, and I'm pretty sure that there isn't any icon, be it on the desktop or anywhere else, apart in the menu, where you have to search for it. And my question is: why doesn't this install icon appear on the desktop ?

Bouquins Well since desktop icons are not enabled on the budgie/gnome live ISOs, it would be very hard to display an install icon on the desktop !!!

But I will give you a clue... the only visible icons are the ones on the panel... and guess what the very first pinned icon is ? 😉

Bouquins Just checked the latest Budgie ISO and it really doesn't have the install icon anymore, 3.999 still has it, maybe @JoshStrobl knows why it got removed 🙂

Sorry, but in my mind, this icon has never been used to install Solus on hard drive. My bad if i missed this point.
        That said:

        What about this ?

And I didn't know that point. Sorry, but I feel those remarks a bit...how to say...like badly kidding me, although I said at the beginning of my post that I didn't know if that point had been discussed before. And I wasn't asking for me, as i know how to install Solus, but to give a chance Solus to be easier to install for newcomers.

Bouquins If you really want to get technical, we used the identical icon for the desktop icon too. It was also in both places before it was taken off the desktop.

As for why it isn't a desktop icon right now, both GNOME and Budgie have desktop icons disabled by default now AFAIK.

All is clear, thank you! It may be tagged as "Solved" !
