Hey there, I was just wondering if there are any plans for JACK2 support in Solus. Having gotten more heavily involved in audio production, I've been more or less forced off of Solus, because of JACK1's limitations. I was hoping that support for JACK2 is something that is in the pipeline sooner rather than later?

Thanks!

Is there any way to like, show that it's more desired than a low priority request? JACK1 is limited in it's ability to play nice with PulseAudio, meaning you more or less are stuck with one or the other. It's excessively cumbersome to work around.

I'd submit a package myself but I simply don't have the knowledge or ability to do it - I've tried once already.

No, the task priority has absolutely nothing to do with how many people want it. It's about the priority of the task in relation to others. The fact you really want it, doesn't increase its priority.

    Harvey What an obnoxious response.

It's a non-insignificant thing, and it's been two years. JACK1 support has been fixed, and there has been no movement on the task.

marmalade People working on Solus are volunteers and priorities are fixed by these people depending on what Solus really need and on the time these people can dedicate to it.

And honestly, I would be surprised if JACK2 would be high on the priority list knowing that for most people it doesn't make any difference compared to JACK1. And I don't even speak about people wanting JACK2 just because 2 is bigger than 1 and who don't know what the difference is (not saying that for you of course since you told why you need it).

PS: You should learn your math again unless you don't live on planet earth 😛

The only person being obnoxious here is you.

You seem to think people should change the priority of a task based on your interests. The fact of the matter is for most people JACK2 isn't required. The people who work on Solus do so for free, in their spare time. Right now, that time is much better spent on things other than JACK2 integration which isn't as simple as push a button.

Either do the work yourself, wait patiently, or use an operating system that can better cater to your specific use case scenario. Nobody wants to hear your little temper tantrum about how volunteers allocate their time to the Solus project.

Harvey The response was obnoxious because it was needlessly combative. Once again, it's non insignificant, I've made the attempt to build it myself, and I wasn't sitting here demanding it to be done. All I asked is if there was a way to show that the interest level in it is more than nil, which is the way that it appears to be treated. You projected your own view onto me. I asked a question. I demanded nothing.

It is a difficult situation when you have to rely on others in order to get things done. I am not a software expert. If I was I would do it myself. I infact made the attempt, but it is beyond my knowledge. You're the only one having a temper tantrum.

You asked a question and I answered it, there was nothing even remotely combative about my original post. You just didn't like the answer.

I'll say it again, the level of interest in something being done, does not affect its priority. Which is something you still don't seem to comprehend given this statement:

marmalade to show that the interest level in it is more than nil, which is the way that it appears to be treated.

It's not being treated as if it has zero interest from the community, there are just tasks that are more important. An once again its importance to you, does not increase its priority within the project. I don't know how I can put that any simpler.

marmalade Calm down, nobody is attacking you. If this conversation continues down this path it will be deleted.

It's not a high priority right now with everything else going on. It also apparently isn't a high enough priority for anyone in the community to want to maintain and integrate it.

I'm locking this post because there's a needless amount of friction over what ultimately is the status quo.
