printer stopped working - cups-browsed problem

Hi, can someone please help me getting my network printer to work again?

Look in the journal logs for the error(s) at the moment the service failed to start.

I hope someone else steps in to help you--I'm at the end of my knowledge here. I don't know why CUPS insists on staying disabled and even disabling itself.
As far as what kyrios asked for:

The only hiccup I see is the screensaver thing at the same time as the printers. But it fixes itself.
The only other thing I got that worked once in the past is a complete uninstall/reboot/re-install.

Tried to do that, but I'm not sure I'm looking for the correct errors.
I guess it's because this: colord[736]: failed to get session [pid 660]: No data available
But it seems that this hardly matters for others: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/37014

I googled the back half of that fail output. So many things marked "solved" but solved in radically different ways, for ex.: update, changing a file name, patch, install/reinstall cups, etc.

Frustrating; it's happened a long time ago to me but I threw every known remedy at it to see what would stick, so I don't know what fixed it🙁

Yeah very frustrating, because it worked since I installed solus without a problem.

systemctl list-unit-files --type=socket gave me disabled for both cups sockets. I enabled them manually and restarted, but still the same problem.

Hi, what packages did you uninstall/re-install. I ask because when I click on "Remove" at the "cups" package I get tons of dependencies that would also be removed. Can I safely do it?

Another thing I found was the package "cups-filters" got updated last month. Maybe that broke it for me.

logtom You can re-install cups alone from a terminal: sudo eopkg it --reinstall cups

Thanks! I ran sudo eopkg it --reinstall cups and sudo eopkg it --reinstall cups-filters and rebooted. But still the same problem.

So with sudo eopkg history I found this:

So will it be save to use sudo eopkg history -t 524 to rollback? I'm kinda panicked about it because this is my work rig and downtime is an issue.

logtom If it's your working rig, take a backup and roll back, if the roll-back causes an issue, restore and continue working.

That solved it for now. Rebooted and the printer instantly printed again. But how do I update now without breaking it again?

You can update with sudo eopkg up --exclude cups-filters to update you system without updating the cups-filters package. But at some point that will probably no longer work, as dependencies get upgraded and so on.

Thank you. I updated with sudo eopkg up --exclude cups-filters and rebooted. All packages (except of cups-filters) got nicely updated and printing still works.

logtom I did another 1/2 hour of reading about your problem, and searched "No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer" this time.
It's a good thing you reported the problem.
I discovered this was a well-known problem in deb/kde enviros especially. I also learned disabling screen saver helped a couple people--so I wasn't necessarily crazy. There is also a nutty browsd file which is the cause of others' problems.
I'm so happy you have a temp fix though. When it's your workstation, it's important.

I am also having an issue with

 cups-browsed.service

That fails to start.
Looks like the only solution is to rollback? Will the next update fix this issue, because I am unsure as to why this service is not starting? Using the Gnome edition btw
