System boots into command line after Nvidia drivers installation

Hello, i'm currently having a little problem on installing Nvidia drivers into my PC.
On my first attempt i tried using the DoFlicky driver manager and after downloading it and rebooting
my computer the Lightdm greeter didn't show up and instead it showed the ctrl+alt+f2
(Solus Operating Sytem) menu. I tried ctrl+alt+f7 but it didn't work so i used the eopkg rollback
and history feature to remove the packages.
In my second attempt i tried this command sudo eopkg it nvidia-developer-driver-current nvidia-developer-driver-common nvidia-developer-driver-32bit but the same the error happened.
My kernel is 4.20.16-112.current and my GPU is a GT 710 which is still supported by the recent drivers.

ougi-oshino Please update your system before installing the driver. Then install nvidia-glx-driver-current.

Hello, have you tried using nvidia-glx-driver-current?

Justin abnazhor okay i'm going to try it, i'll reply back after doing it. i think i should update the linux firmware and the lightdm packages lol but i'm going to update everything already.

ougi-oshino No, you should just update everything at once, updating individual packages tends to be a cause of many issues on any distro.

Justin I'm very frustrated... it didn't work even after a full upgrade..
the curious fact is that it does a depmod to the 5.1 kernel when I remove the nvidia drivers.
but when i do auname -r it shows that the 4.20 kernel is being used.
I'm honestly losing my hope man.

ougi-oshino Did you reboot after a the full update? This is needed due Kernel updates or things will go south

I'm having this same issue as well, have been for close to two weeks. I just downloaded a fresh ISO and attempted everything from scratch. Here's all the info:

Hardware:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1070
MOBO: ASUS Crosshair VII Hero (Wi-Fi) - AHCI enabled, booting with UEFI, secure boot turned off/set to "Other OS"
SSD: 512 GB NVMe

Tried two installs; one created with Rufus following the steps in the help center, and another created with Etcher (results were the same). All install steps were kept at their defaults (for me) and both installs were done with the "erase disk/auto partition" option selected. Both installs went fine with no errors.

After rebooting and logging in, all packages are updated through the software center. Reboot again just to make sure everything is good and open hardware manager. Detects what drivers I need fine, and also select to install 32 bit libs with it. Installs fine, reboot... black screen with a cursor.

I would definitely like to get this working, if I can be of anymore help or test various solutions I'm definitely happy to do so!

Do you both have free space on your EFI partition?

I do, during these last two installs the "erase disk/auto partition" option setup a 512 MB EFI partition, 2 GB swap, and 500+ GB to root. Manually partitioning ends with the same result for me after installing the NVIDIA drivers.
