Nautilus has a somewhat similar feature in the list view, it's called tree view. Usually, to enable the tree view in list view, you'd open Nautilus preferences, but these are inaccessible now (at least on GNOME).

You can enable the tree view in dconf editor (available in the repositories) as well though (open it, CTRL-F, search for Nautilus >> list-view >> enable use tree view).

If you don't like the tree view, pantheon-files (available in the repositories) has a dual pane feature.

An alternative is to use another file manager like doublecmd for example.

Ok so I tried all of them xD

I tried Double Commander, Krusader and Sunflower. In the end I liked Nautilus better so I'm gonna stick with it πŸ™‚ I'll just make use of the hotkeys to split the view easily πŸ˜‰

Thank you all for all your help πŸ˜ƒ

Quick question tho: since I installed a bunch of things and I'm pretty sure some dependencies were left that are not really needed. Is there a way to 'purge' these dependencies?

You want sudo eopkg rmo. rmo = "remove orphans"

davidjharder if it reports No packages to remove then I should be in the clear right? Tho it sounds weird since I know I deleted most of the programs I just installed and there were dependencies needed. I don't think these dependencies are needed for something else, otherwise they would've been installed already.

AlienTux From my professional macintosh days (up to osX/Jaguar), I still maintain, to this day, they have the best file manager I've ever used. Easy drop down, panes, working in it was smooth as melted butter.
I tried to make do with Dolphin, Caja etc but none as intuitive and fast and reliable as ugly Nautilus.
There's the rub, as they say.
If someone can FOSS the Mac file manager without getting sued my linux life would be completeπŸ™‚::::

            Ha ha ha - brilliant!

brent After trying out several file managers I have to agree that the current Nautilus one is the smoothest (and actually prettiest) of them all...

Never been a Mac guys myself so I wouldn't know about that browser πŸ™‚

Oh also, @Junglist is there a way for me to add the Solved tag as well or does it have to be a forum mod?

AlienTux Well, Dolphin resembles mac the most to me. Drop-down arrows, moving stuff from folder-to-folder effortlessly. It looked like mac file manager more than it acted like it. Dolphin never organized the file hierarchy in any way I understood. We can disagree on 'pretty' but Naut is intuitive and functional without doubt.

Funny how taste differs. @brent I've been an avid Mac user for the last 18 years but the thing I never liked was the finder πŸ™‚ I've been using Forklift for years and having THAT on Linux would totally make my day. Oh and no there's nothing remotely comparable available.
