Hey all. i just wanted to share a quick thank you and my experience, i am using Gnome
So i have been using Solus for a little over 2 weeks now and i have to say that this is by far the most responsive, simplified and in touch with the community distro that i have ever used and i am absolutely loving it.
The installation was very simple and i loved the installer option's and automatic partition which did not make any unnecessary partition's, after reboot i did have to figure out how to install nvidia drivers, a simple alt f2 and updating with an nvidia eopkg installation fixed the issue and was kinda fun to do and figure out 😃
Once in, i was able to use the software center to get all my software, including skype, lutris, steam and 32 bit libraries and had no issue's with installations and post setup because eopkg seems to have impressive dependency resolving, grabbing 32 bit libraries most other distro's dont.
the Solus Kernel automatically detected my Ryzen 2600 and MSi B450M Mobo and sensors, i have had beyond frustrating issue's with other distro's and kernels when it comes to getting sensors working, this worked out of the box, thank you for thinking of the small things
A little touch here, a little touch there and bam, the experience is absolutely stellar, performance is extremely snappy and everything just works. i also really enjoyed the gnome setup with the choice of tweaks and small changes including the tweak "impatience".
I only have 2 suggestions that i think would improve Solus
- an ISO with nvidia drivers already installed, it just makes life easier for everyone with nvidia Turin cards or above who want to use Solus.
- Look into AppImages, Bryan Lunduke made a great case for AppImages and the future of the packaging system, only 1 distro out there ( i wont name it ) has made an appimage store inbuilt into their OS, i would love to see a custom made / feature full appimage store on Solus, but thats just me.
Here is a quick screenshot of my setup so far, i made a few small additions myself to gnome like adding the solus logo 😃
