brent Nothing stupid in your comment. I am glad you are trying to help.
My patience is tested too with this problem - and not only mine, Girtablublu has put so much time into this.
The dcp195c is printing like it should. This was achieved by the eop-package from Girtablublu. Super.
It finds the brother printer. I am not using the IP because I connect it with usb-cable to my PC.
For the scanner-function of dcp-195c, we need the brscan3 driver-package.
It can be downloaded from the brother website, either as rpm or as deb.
In Ubuntu-based OS, the deb-package works fine ... but still the scanner is not found by scan-programs like simple-scan oder gscan2pdf. This is well known to all who try to scan with it and in the wiki.ubuntuusers there are all known solutions for 32bit, 64bit PCs, for usb and for network scanning with the brother device.
I know them all because of all the years and applied them hundreds of times.
I like to test distros and this brother-scanner thing is routine for me. Since Ubuntu18.04 there is only one command in the terminal (creating a symlink) and scanning works. In older distros it was more work to do.
I learned how to install the rpm scanning package in Solus4. It works fine because simple-scan finds the DCP-195C, although the Microsoft Webcam is plugged into an usb-slot.
But when clicking on "Scanning" , it says that there is no connection to the device. It is impossible to scan.
In Solus4, I don't know how to type the IP of the scanner into a field. Don't know which field, don't know how to find it. I am lost at that point. Spent already about 8 to 14 hours on it, searching forums and websites for a solution.
There are solus driver packages for some brother devices, but that doesn't help. The dcp-195c solus package already works for the printing. It is perfect.
The hassle is the scan-drivers. All those which Girtablublu created for solus do not work on my PC.
Either simple-scan disappears or it finds the Webcam.
When I click "scanning", simple-scan starts to work. The Webcam is activated and takes a picture of me, sitting here in front of the screen. Very nice, but then the show is over.
I will try to find a solution while Girtablublu explores how to get brscan3 to work in this case.
