As maybe many saw we have finally somewhat of an own Solus Plasma theme, with wallpaper, colors etc.

But I'm still not fully happy and I keep working on the plasma-integration, one of the projects I have now is color theme.
The colors are based at the moment on Breeze-Dark but I'd like to have an own Solus color-scheme the thing is I'm really bad regarding art & design (Don't have the patient for this 😛 )

So if someone is up to a challenge to create a Plasma solus color-scheme which maybe will be added as an default be my guest 🙂

How to

Use this as base file

create the file "SolusNew" in /usr/share/color-schemes

This new color-scheme should be now loadable inside the "systemsettings --> Colors" settings

after this just edit the color numbers of the file to your liking but you just have to reload it after your changes.

as the base rule, it should be a dark color theme not a light one for now, maybe I create in the future a SolusLight theme but this is not yet planned. (unless someone shows up with something really awesome 😉 )

If you have any question ask away

Justin Hey thanks! I will definitely give it a go. I do enjoy messing with colors!

I have been meaning to mess around with Solus Plasma and my theme anyway haha.

25 days later

so first little past

create a file in /usr/share/color-schemes called SolusDarker.colors

If someone is even to lazy for this

it will look like this

Girtablulu I tried to install the plasma testing Iso on a vbox guest machine a few days ago and it keeps on resetting the screen resolution to 800x600. I even tried with xrandr, it changes for a second then switch back to 800x600... This makes testing harder 😜

Girtablulu Sorry, had forgotten about this. xD

The subtle transparency is really nice; a hint of what's behind it while still being very readable. As a whole, it does look really good, and it has good contrast. As long as dark is what you're going for, I don't really see anything to tweak about it.

kyrios Same thing happened to me after update. It's keep resetting to 800x600 screen resolution in vm.

kyrios What graphics controller setting do you have selected in VirtualBox? I ran into this issue whenever I had VMSVGA turned on. If I had VBoxSVGA(what I have selected now) or VBoxVGA enabled my Solus Plasma VM would display normally. This is on a Windows 10 host machine. I don't know if the issue is with VirtualBox or the Solus Plasma virtual machine.

flanier I use the VMSVGA which is the officially recommanded driver for linux guests since VirtualBox 6

VMSVGA: Use this graphics controller to emulate a VMware SVGA graphics device. This is the default graphics controller for Linux guests.

This is supposed ot offer better performances, but to be quite frank, the VBoxVGA is better and it dynamically adapt the resolution when you resize the VBOX guest window which is a much important feature than supporting opengl 2.x

Slightly off-topic: Any suggestions on how to keep Plasma looking nice while also using Budgie?
Firefox looks ugly after installing Plasma on a system which started out with Budgie.

I'm not too happy with the Breeze dark theme, especially when using GTK apps. I hope the new color scheme will also be available for the light theme.

clauded I will still ship breeze color scheme so there will be always a light theme but with 5.17, plasma should get better support for gtk apps

Good color theme, it would be nice to have a similar color theme to gtk apps. I only changed the taskbar theme so have some transparency and also one color in konsole to match the solus dark theme.

that is pretty much what i have been waiting for, it seems too bulky atm and not at all as stream lined as something like budgy (doh) for example!

Worked again on it a bit, here is an plasma-desktop-branding eopkg for testing, don't forget after testing to reinstall the repo one 🙂

            how it looks
