Hi.

I tried to install SOLUS a few days ago but hit a solid brick wall.

I use Nvidia 4060 so I know it's hard for me

Live usb black screen after a few secs
Booted with nomodeset screen flickering but installable. Get it installed booted went to install Nvidia via discovery black screen so rebooted when into tty ran the comments to install Nvidia current meant with not in wheel group ok went to switch to su and was told root password is wrong.....

Wtf?

RevTheory-Roe Install nvidia-open-current instead nvidia-glx-driver-current. 4000 series GPU is only supported with Nvidia Open driver.

We are in process of overhauling the Nvidia driver package and documentation. Sorry if it gets a bit confusing.

Seems like you hit the transition of the sudo group to wheel at a bad time. My suggestion is if you decide to reinstall again.

Install as normal (better if you wipe the disk clean before the installation or choose that option on the installer)
Boot to the newly installed Solus. Do update, preferably via terminal so you know what is going on (sudo eopkg upgrade).
Install Nvidia driver (sudo eopkg install nvidia-open-current)
Reboot the system and hopefully you get a working system

alfisya that's what I did but it still wouldnt work as user wasn't in wheel group this was all via tty as well

alfisya I could try again but it's still a issue with the booting to black screen without nomodeset in grub.

If I am unable to use anything which not being in wheel group how would I go about installing

You reboot, after that sudo will work again.

Since 4.8 ISO was released there was a change away from the sudo group which is a debianism to wheel which is used on most distros. This avoids having to patch several packages that expect wheel not sudo.

Harvey so I'll have to reinstall and pray that I can get though the black screen so I can install it

Just need to pick if I use Solus (Prefer too) or bite the built and use a beginner distro....

Try:
After the installation, go to TTY (Ctrl+Alt+F2), log in and run:
sudo eopkg upgrade - then reboot. This should move you to the wheel group properly.
Go to TTY again, run sudo eopkg install nvidia-open-current and reboot.
