Heya folks! It's sync day, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!
GNOME users that use the Nvidia 470 drivers should begin looking into alternatives. Once GNOME 50.0 comes out, GNOME will no longer run on X11, and the 470 driver cannot run on Wayland. Version 50.0 comes out in one month, and 50.1 is scheduled for the month after that. KDE Plasma users may have a little more time, but Plasma will also only support Wayland later this year. Adding to the list, Budgie 10.10 is also Wayland-only. Time is quickly running out for the 470 driver series!
KDE Gear has been updated to 25.12.2 this week. This is a bugfix release for the 25.12 series. Check out the full changelog here.
Our kernel packages have been updated. The Linux current branch is now at 6.18.9, and the LTS branch is at 6.12.69. Additionally, xone has been updated to 0.5.5. The release notes are here, here, and here, respectively.
We have a bunch of new packages this time around. First up is sudo-rs, an implementation of sudo and related tools in Rust. Next is TIDAL-HiFi, a version of Tidal with Hi-Fi support. Then, we have GHDL, an analyzer, compiler, simulator and (experimental) synthesizer for VHDL. Next comes dua-cli, a utility to view disk usage and delete unwanted data. Last, but not least, is Fresh, a terminal text editor and IDE.
