Audio "goes to sleep" when there's no sound for a second.

I am using optical (SPDIF) and haven't noticed this problem.
You can try to disable audio driver power management:

just add this options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf and reboot

Solarmass Is that specifically for Intel audio chipsets? I don't think my mobo runs that chipset. I also don't have that file or directory. Should it be created?

Mr-Spongecake I guess it should work for any mobos that have optical. Yes, create this directory and file with text as root and reboot.

With this option the red light will always shine 🙂

Solarmass I'll probably give that option a try tomorrow. Right now, I'ma just use it by USB so the audio is fully there and not missing the first fifth of a second. I'll let you know how it works when I try it.

Clintre I noticed this with my amp - if no music is playing it shows that source is not available till you start playing again. It turned out that there is no red light at that moment. This power_save=0 option fixed that. I think it should be on by default or be in the Sound settings at least.

Just added the file and created the line. Rebooting now.

It didn't work. Sound still cuts out after a second of no use then has to ramp up volume again.

Well, like I said, if I have it plugged in by USB then it works fine, with no lost audio. It also didn't do this when my computer was running Windows 10.

I think I'll just run it USB for the time being. If I see any solution then I'll let yall know.
