Is english your mother tongue?

I try to get an impression what's the percentage of native english speaking forum members opposed to those people like me who always struggle a bit to articulate well since english is not my mother tongue.

Italian here, english is actually my third language after italian and lombard, all three at pretty much the same level.

Yes, English is my native. I know a little Spanish, but just enough to understand basics.

English and bad English primarily. My family is primarily German and Czech, so I did grow up hearing it from my grandparents, but my parents never learned it since they were born in the US. Understanding wise, I can generally understand but speaking it back is not great. My kids are both much better as they took German in school. French to a lesser degree as I used to travel there for business and some vacation. Spanish I can again understand decently well simply as I live in Texas which has a large Spanish-speaking population that I grew up around. But in general I am an English speaker.

Clintre My theory, if I was a betting man (I'm not) is in 30 days when most people have voted, non-English speakers on this forum will outnumber native speakers by a fraction. Something like 55% non-native vs 45% native. something like that.
I could be really wrong.

German speaker, my english is quite ok as I like to think. I can somehow understand the news in dutch. I can read , write and mostly understand Javascript and Rust, but rarely speak it 🙂

brent I could see that. On my Solseek survey it was about 68% for English, but that was language settings not native language and was users from Reddit as well.

I'm from Quebec, Canada and my first language is French but I can read, write and understand English pretty well and my spoken english is not bad but you can definitely tell I am from Quebec with my accent.

English also as I am from England the mothership. Also Basic and Vibe coding with help from search engines but I dont speak it either. 😃

French is my native language.
During my middle and high school years, I learned English as a first language (for 7 years) and German (for 3 years).
But I don't know them well enough to follow a conversation or read a book.
That's why it is essential for me to have a good numeric translator to understand the discussions on this forum or others too, but also to read topics on the web written in these languages, or even others.

(Austrian) German is my native language. My English is okay, but my Spanish, which was the second foreign language I was taught in school, is unfortunately atrocious and by now I've forgotten most of what I'd learned. Use it or lose it, and I never really used it much.

I'm a fan of learning new languages in theory but never have enough discipline to actually go through with it long-term.
