Virtualbox - Error starting guest NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

Hello,
I installed Solus a few days ago and everything is going well except for one thing: I can't get Virtualbox to work.
I have read the documentation and installed all the necessary components, but whenever I start up a machine, I always get the same error:```

The virtual machine 'Ubuntu_24.04_VB_LinuxVMImages.COM' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

After doing some research, I'm wondering if VirtualBox can run on Solus, up to date, with Gnome-shell, which requires Wayland.
What do you know about this?

What DE are you using? VB works for me on Plasma but I could not get it to work on Budgie. I haven't tried it on Gnome. I use Boxes on Gnome and it works fine.

Trentanel I have it in budgie, the solution is to check which kernel it has, if the current or the lts, if it has the current it has to have "virtualbox-current" installed and if it has the LTS it has to have "virtualbox-lts" installed, if they are not installed install them and restart the system, it should work, I imagine that it also works in Gnome.

I am running several VMs on Solus Plasma on VirtualBox including Zorin 18 which is based on Ubuntu 24.04. As for the problem I am unsure , maybe someone else will come along with an idea.

Citfta I could not get it to work on Budgie.

This is the first clue confirming that things are complicated with Gnome.

I confirm that VB works well on Solus with Plasma and that I cannot get it to work with Gnome-shell.

gathering a bit of info, what does eopkg li | grep virtualbox and uname -r shows?
some times the user install the packages for the lts kernel but it's currently booted in the current kernel.
And just by chance, is virtualisation enabled?

I have for both kernels, and yes virtualization is enabled.

Slight correction. The virtualbox package for the lts kernel is virtualbox not virtualbox-lts, the latter does not exist.

Witch CPU and GPU do you have ?
Is it with linux lts or current ?

Harvey So it would only work for the current kernel, since I'm using it and it works, because if that problem hits the LTS kernel if I wouldn't know how to fix it. 🙁 .

AAndresH @Harvey Sorry, I got it, you need to install "virtualbox" if you have LTS, ok.

Trentanel Yes, virtualbox works fine on my budgie desktop. I have the following CPU and GPU:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) N4200 (4) @ 2.50 GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 505 @ 0.75 GHz [Integrated]

I have the current kernel.

As I do not use anymore this software, but when I did, I did this:

echo "options kvm enable_virt_at_load=0" | sudo tee /usr/lib/modprobe.d/virtualbox.conf

but I'm not sure if this is for you, I do not remember anymore why did I need this one. try it, maybe it helps you.

btw, if you do not have this dir, you need to create it with sudo mkdir /usr/lib/modprobe.d

Thanks, but virtualbox works fine, without that, on two other computers with Solus and Gnome.
The problem is with this one. VT-x is enabled, virtualbox-current and common installed. There is an other thing that I'm looking for.
Virtualbox worked on this machine with Archlinux.
