That's why I don't use Budgie, and that's why I can't get used to it, as much as I'd like to... The inconsistency of the windows. Sometimes a wider top edge, then narrower again. Then the corners are sometimes rounded, sometimes angular. Then sometimes light, sometimes dark... Nothing matches.

It just works well with Gnome. And once Budgie has really nailed it, with proper multi-monitor support and proper Wayland support, I'll switch. But only when everything is right.

the right mix and match theming (themes and integrated toggles) cures most of this but OOTB it does appear that way

AlphaElwedritsch I feel you. Also, I haven't figured out how to change the panel from dark to light. Changing theme or toggle built-in-dark theme doesn't affect the panel. In GNOME, we have this nice luminus extension for switching to a light theme.
But what annoyed me the most when I was using Budgie lately was: I didn't use plank, since it is X11 only and has no future on a wayland Budgie, so I added a bottom panel in dock mode with icon tasklist. But when you have let's say 5 chrome windows open and you want to switch back to chrome via click on dock chrome icon, you get back to chrome, but not to the last window you were working in, but any chrome window. Can't understand how anybody can work like this.

edit: that's why I compiled skippy-xd to have some kind of expose/overview in Budgie. But again, this has no future since skippy-xd is X11 only, and unmaintained I belive.

This is a snapshot taken immediately after starting the RC Live system. I've only switched to a light theme, as I don't like the all-dark one. Otherwise everything was left as it was, nothing was changed.
And yes, I simply like it when things are right out of the box and consistent throughout. I don't like spending hours fiddling with everything to get it just right 😉
I'm past the age for fiddling around. 😆

but as you said you dont use dark.
Guess thats why we have choices.

I feel for you guys. My first install of Solus was with Budgie.
Because it was all new to me I kept a text file recording all of the little modifications that got made just in case I wanted to reinstall or install on another machine, or in case I hosed my OS.
My text file grew in size and I started to realise that running an identical system on another PC would involve a lot of tweaking, also there were lots of inconsistencies between updates and sometimes even between boots.
Friends would call round and ask how I was doing with this wonderful OS that I kept talking about so naturally I would show them. Everything would be fine until I tried to do something like shut down and the button wouldn't work (even though it would on the live version run from the iso). It felt like having a top of the range car where the passenger door kept jamming (either open or closed).
By this time I had researched (some) of the problems and had a longer text file with a few solutions and a lot of tweaks to make Budgie like I wanted it to be.
I could see the potential backed up by the time I had already invested. I desperately wanted it all to work just that little bit better and not have to back up and admit that what I had was not the right decision for me. I really wanted to see it through to the end with Budgie.
Eventually my laptop broke in some way caused by me trying to mend it which resulted in the need to wipe and reinstall. On an impulse I decided to give Plasma a try and it has treated me very well ever since.
This is not advocating Plasma.
All I am trying to say is that some times trying something different is worth the learning curve. Solus offers a great curated operating system backed by a small but dedicated team. The forum has some of the most genuine and helpful people I have come to know. Running Solus should be what we are loyal to, the choice of which edition should come down to choosing one that works best for you as an individual. Wayland seems to be getting used over more and more Linux distributions which is also tending to blur the differences between the different editions. This could be a good thing. Only the future knows.

...I did a package request for non-KDE, wayland-compatible Cairo dock ahead of Wayland Budgie here, based on your Plank observation: https://github.com/getsolus/packages/issues/7149
We'll see if they scoff at me and show me to the door or consider it down the road 🙂

brent I compiled what is the basic cairo dock i presume and am using it on KDE
havent had any problems have not fiddled with it much tho.
Has not given me so much as a hiccup for my use.
I would say having it for solus would be cool. (Just for the fact its useful and being currently developed)

When ever I get time in my life again need to look at it more.
Note: I dont know how it would work for Budgie wayland tho seems be totally different animal.
When I say basic I havent tried any plugins

Budgie is transitioning to Budgie-wayland at the moment. I have never switched from Budgie, Budgie still the best DE with built-in default true dark theme and customizable panel. I don't use any docks. I don't care much about apps theme inconsistency, I use different apps built with different toolkits (qt/gtk/sdl3/electron) anyway. I only care for is that every app should have good internal dark theme.
