Once in a blue moon, it happens and you have to reinstall everything.
I thought that with Solus I wouldn't have any problems. All the previous updates had worked perfectly.
But when you got the black screen, you had to go to the TTY terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and try a few things yourself.
First: sudo eopkg check. This will fix anything that is broken.
When it happened, I ran a few commands I found here, such as:
eopkg rebuild-db; eopkg up; eopkg check; eopkg check -y. None of them worked. I didn't know your three commands.
I'll do the updates this weekend and test them.
If /boot has been damaged, that's a different story.
I'm not sure if it was /boot that was damaged. The only step missing was entering the password. The cursor was there, but instead of the window to enter the password, everything was black.
The problem with black screens is that it can be very easy or take days, with all shades in between. It's worth it. Hang in there.
I completely agree with you. Sometimes we don't have time to do it...
I appreciate that you are trying to learn.
I had already learned with Debian, Mint, Kubuntu, Manjaro, and Elementary.
But I find that Solus is the one I like best.
If you want to know how people do their monthly cleaning with Solus (if that was your question about ‘all the commands’), start another thread. I have a lot to contribute, like others, on how to keep the operating system clean.
Good idea, I'll do that.
If you were specifically asking for a list of troubleshooting commands, here are a few.
With Debian and others, I knew almost all of them and could do everything. Solus has other commands...
Thank you for your comments.
