Update and Discover Xfce

With the last-ish update (I'm usually a month behind), when I click on software center, I get the message "Failed to execute command "/user/bin/solus-sc". Failed to execute child process (no such file or directory).

I recall seeing a pop-up message for Discover (don't recall installing this). When clicking on Discover, I get the message "Unable to load applications please verify internet connectivity" before closing automatically.

I can live with this for now, but how do I install updates?

As a part of the epoch transition, the Solus Software Center will be removed if it is still installed, and replaced with GNOME Software if GNOME is detected, or KDE Discover if Budgie, Plasma, or Xfce are detected. Users can swap out which software center is installed after, if they so wish, or remove them entirely. Note that if you had the old Software Center pinned, as it is by default on Solus, the icon may be broken until you update on Polaris for updated desktop branding packages, and/or manually re-pin an application.

Try launching Discover (plasma-discover) from terminal. What does it say?

Some other bits, but the pertinent part "This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"

How would I reinstall it?

With rebooting, I get the error message Failed to start lightdm.service, and I am completely locked out.

So how do i go about fixing this (as if I were a small child) with an install usb (or do I have to reinstall)?

I found the part of using F3 +ALT+CTRL, and running "sudo eopkg up" and "sudo usysconf run -f" (everything updates except for VirtualBox), but I still get the failed lightdm.service with reboot.

And for the VirtualBox services, I get this message "Job for vboxdrv.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See 'systemctl status vboxdrv.service and 'journalctl -xeu vboxdrv.service' for details".

Since everything else seems to work, is VirtualBox the hangup? Could I uninstall it from terminal (and how would I do that)?

Would this fix the issue?

When I run sudo systemctl status lightdm, the service and preset are enabled, but I get failed messages along the lines "start request repeated to quickly, failed with result 'exit-code', failed to start lightdm".

What do I do with this? What caused this?

You may have a failed / partial upgrade or broken packages. I recommend following the troubleshooting guide on the Help Center, particularly fixing broken packages to start with.

Reinstall discover won't help you if you are stuck without graphical interface. It's normal that you can't start a graphical app before you load your desktop. But if you need to reinstall something later from the command line, this is sudo eopkg install --reinstall plasma-discover
I'm not sure that virtualbox error is relevant here, your real problem is with lightdm as you need it to load your desktop and I don't know how to help with this
