@axios if he takes a poll (looks like he is). just like you, I do half of things in eopkg (still do) and cherished the SC for categories/grouping/changelogs. It's just convenient to open up a folder of music players or a folder of themes (once upon a time @Harvey gave an eopkg way to see changelogs and I'm kicking myself for not writing it down).

I think your post was great. Solseek has a niche and an AK-47 maintainer 🙂. if it had grouping (location for music players and themes, for example, I'd spend as much time in it as I did SC and still install things via eopkg (habit).

@Original-Syn the installed/uninstalled feature is great to know when perusing as far as all the other shoring up since its original inception EDIT: sensible poll, thank you

Something I forgot to add to the survey, and perhaps it's already been asked... solseek command line arguments.

As a potential alternative option to TUI selections (not to diminish or replace them), it would be satisfying to be able to type something like solseek --ue and have solseek open immediately to updates > everything and start running it. One command to rule (or update) them all! 🧝‍♂️

Also, I have yet to thank you for solseek. This is an excellently crafted and valuable tool for Solus. A most worthy endeavor!

beevomit Thanks for the feedback. Versions < 0.7.x you can run solseek up and it will update both eopkg and flatpak (if enabled). Versions >= 0.7.x you can run solseek up -e for everything.

Man, I am a bit shocked and humbled. As of the time of this post, almost 70 people have participated in the survey at least partially, meaning they answered some questions, if not all. I honestly expected below 30.

The survey still has a few hours left, but it has already been a success as far as getting some input from people using the tool.

Once done, I will post the raw results, as I want to be completely open about all of this. Followed by that, I will make a blog post in response to the results and respond to some of the questions/statements users made.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed and provided feedback either through the survey, here in this thread, on the git, or on Reddit.

I will have a full breakdown and response of the data, but I wanted to get some of the raw data and stats out there. There is apparently no way to publicly post the raw results. If I had known that ahead of time, I would have used a different provider. However, as promised, I want to be as open about this as possible. So I have screenshotted everything, downloaded the raw csv file that contains the data. Unfortunately, even with the screenshot, in the sections where there is text input, they put it in a way that you cannot see all the entries. So I added text files for the data of those.

Axios was surprised that 50% of responders lists gnome-terminal as their daily terminal. I used it for 7 years straight and was very happy. (But I moved on).

Glad you published the results. The two 'list in order' entries did not look like mine, that is for sure 🙂

I agree that the Solus team have built this wonderful distro and deserve the credit for building something that people want to use and for being part of the community, as I have seen you mention.

At the same time much of the news and social media posts are always about Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Arch, Cachy, etc. etc. You need someone out there shining a light on this great little distro. I honestly saw your posts on social media. Being new to the Linux desktop world, I didn't even know about Solus. Primarily knew Ubuntu due to my work on servers. Passion is infectious.

And no, I am not one that wrote that on the survey.

the unspoken Solus Way is transparency and you are right there with it. that goes a long way to its users if I had to guess.

Personally I think thats why the forum works so well everybody is created equally it can be a newbie or seasoned
user they are helped and treated the same.
Heck I dont do much but come here and try to help people in the forum and stir people into
using their brains.
But You know I feel like I am doing something to better Solus.
You did it with Solseek by the actions you took people felt wanted and they reacted
Guess what I am saying dont diminish yourself you will lose the passion as long as you know where it comes from.

After typing all that heck I must have some passion or I wouldnt come here everyday and do what I do it
would get pretty boring fast.

But I do understand how one can feel that way.

The first start took about 6 seconds. From the second start onwards, it took just under 2 seconds.

I set the variable SS_EOPKG_LCACHE -> SS_EOPKG_LCACHE=1
Without setting the variable, the app doesn't start slower, but in operational use (e.g., after removing orphaned) it takes significantly longer for the cache to be regenerated.

In the Welcome screen or under Tools, you could possibly display information about the system lifetime. Retrieved via the "eopkg history #1" date

Install sudo eopkg it font-firacode-nerd. Restart your terminal. If that doesn't help, select a font in your terminal that contains Nerd
