Well it works in Cool Retro Term 😉

Showing is the "Tools" section, which is where you can view and export your History, installed apps, Settings, as well as run eopkg check.

I also went ahead and added language support with language file and created the default.

Next, working on the make file and test for basic packaging. I honestly don't miss working in bash, but hey, it works.

skibz I truly appreciate it. Pacseek is a great tool. I am not sure if this will ever reach those lofty expectations, especially up front. I am trying to keep it fairly simple up front. Just hoping that it is useful.

just so you know, the name is very similar to quite a famous software program (Soulseek) so that might cause some confusion!

How does the installation part work? Is it possible to select several packages from the search result and install them in one step?
Or is it more like in in the Solus Software Center where you could only install one package and the go one step back to the search result to install the next package you wanted install from the search result?

Sebastian Initially it is one at a time, but FZF allows selecting many at a time, so I just need to work out the process. The problem is due to the way the fzf search/list works, I cannot just pin one why you search the others. But that is a goal of mine. I also want to have you be able to import a list for mass install as well.

Ok. But you can pin several packages from the same search result and install them?
For example search for GNOME, then pin gnome-weather, gnome-clocks and gnome-calculator and install them at once?
That would be awesome already.

And how about devel packages? One of the most annoying things about Software Center was that many times the devel package(s) was not next in the list to the package it belonged to, but somewhere down in the list. This behaviour drove me nuts many times.

I was able to set it where you could pin multiple even if you pin one, then search for something else it will show the number pinned at the top. So you are not limited to just within one search result, you can pin across...

As for the devel package listing, it is basically doing eopkg sr in the background and FZF is handling ordering. So I did a quick search on a package with a devel version and this was the result...

That's pretty awesome.

Regarding the devel packages: what if the search is less specific?
Excample: just search for svg
Here is deprecated Solus Software Center behaviour:

Between qt5/6-svg package and according devel packages are some 20 random other packages. The devel packages are not "grouped" with the corresponding package.
This had made my search for devel packages far more complicated than it should be in the past.

Edit: On the other hand it might be confusing for "normal users" to see devel packages at all.
So one might argue that in could make sense to have a default normal search that doesn't show devel packages, and an advanced search that also includes devel packages. But maybe I just overcomplicate things here.

I would tend to agree on the devel packages being an option versus default. That wont be an option when I get this out there, but could be down the road maybe.

This is all one bash script, so I'm trying to not get too complicated until I move to a more robust language down the road.

The order of the search results is far better than what Solus Software Center used to show, but still a bit weird.
Yout think it would be possible/desirable to make the order to be strictly alphabetically, in a sense that qt5-svg would not be followed by qt6-svg and python-svglib but the qt5-svg-... stuff first?

Edit: do you understand the pattern of the current order?

Sebastian I will have to dig more into fzf and how it orders. It looks like some weighting based on their logic.
In any case, I am about to post this to GitHub. I am actually going to be busy with my actual job over the next few days, but I will find some time to dig more into those kinds of things when I can. I appreciate the feedback and ideas.
