Cant display GIFs anymore in Brave.

Is this something to do with the web engine update in Plasma. GIFs in facebook messenger are no longer displaying on Brave. Any ideas?

So I rolled back qt6 web engine but that didn't make any difference. GPU acceleration is already off as Brave wont start with it on. Hmmm. I am running nouveau graphics driver but also on another Plasma machine with the same graphics GIFs display ok.

Also not displaying GIFs on Chromium. Will try Firefox. Same in Firefox no GIFs in messenger.

I don't know what your issue is, just explaining what I do know.

qt6-webengine is not used by brave. Its a dependency for applications that need a webengine but do not ship their own. So a browser will never use it but rssguard for example will.

Our brave package is not built from source it is a repackaged deb from upstream. So no chance its a packaging issue our end for brave.

Found it. Apparently one machine doesn't like Quad DNS 9.9.9.9 so have changed it to Cloudflare 1.0.0.1. Now Brave Firefox and Chromium display GIFs in messenger.

my first guess woulda been your shields in Brave..
but what exactly ("machine") changed Quad to Cloudflare without prompting? Unless it was part of its permissions? But "its" is undefined.

The DNS is set by the router which I manually set to Quad but for some strange reason my main PC was coming back with DNS probe error when I tried to download the GIFs but the other one on a mesh radio link wasn't having this problem.

But changing the router DNS to cloudflare and renewing the IP on my main PC seems to have cured it. I discovered it by playing with the DNS settings in Brave which was set as OS default which I changed to Cloudflare and it started working. Shields are off on both machines for messenger.
