How to add external CD / DVD Drive

I just bought a Verbatim external drive for my Acer Nitro 5, which is running Solus Budgie. When I connected it, it was getting power, but not "showing up", so I loaded in the CD which came with the drive just to make sure it was working right. No luck. Added brasero via the terminal. Still no luck. Have rebooted several times. Via the terminal, ran dmesg with grep to pull out any error messages from the driver. Nothing returned.

I will not pretend I am an expert.. I have no idea where to go from here. How do I get this drive working? Is the fact it supports "M discs" the problem? I'm stumped.

WanderingMind I use (Places) on my taskbar for removable devices it will show up their
and you click on it and it will be mounted and show up in nemo ect.
(Dont click on arrow thats for eject ect)

I just tested on mine because havent tried it in ages and it works.

Axios Just in case, I added Places to my taskbar. The drive is connected, receiving power (the drawer opens when you press the button, with the light coming on briefly) but it does not show up there or anywhere else. It doesn't appear under [Media] in my file structure either. It is there, but for some reason, Solus is ignoring it.

WanderingMind Also if you highlight it in places and click it should mount.
I was also curious and plugged mine in it didnt do anything without a disk in it.

Show:

lsblk
lsusb
dmesg | grep -i usb

Check: lsmod | grep sr_mod. If it is not present, execute: sudo modprobe sr_mod

All right; I followed pomon's suggestions. No obviously interesting results, although lsmod did give me an indication a cd-rom drive was attached. However, after this, I clicked Places again. Before, there was nothing. This time, the drive worked. Not sure which command got the computer/OS's attention, but it is working now. Thank you both.
