Best way to send notifications on Solus (outside of Budgie/Gnome/...)

My current set up is running Solus, but with Sway. I am getting the following error when I first open my terminal:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name is not activatable

This is related to a startup script I have which uses notify-send.

Whilst I can install it, is there a way to achieve this with what Solus has installed already, or am I missing the functionality because I'm running Sway and not the default install with Gnome or Budgie?

I have a very similar unsolved output error at devtracker regarding a non-functioning fwupdmgr.
The other circumstances, however, do not resemble yours.
Maybe a broken service-freedesktop error is common. I will watch this thread.

libnotify should be installed in every Solus edition by default as far as I can see[1], so it's probably related to Sway's configuration. I could be wrong though.

[1] It's a dependency of ibus, which is a dependency of plasma-desktop, budgie-desktop, and gnome-control-center. It's also a direct dependency of xfce4-notifyd and mate-notification-daemon. This covers all current and recently deprecated editions.

I suspect that you don't have a notification server running to process and show notifications. A good choice would be swaync, which will show pop-up notifications, and also includes a notification center.

Adding swaync to my autostart script fixed it 👍️
