Plasma Lock screen not responding.

Having touble with plasma lock screen. Lock for overnight come back in the morning and lock screen presents but cant enter password as keyboard not responding and mouse keeps disappearing. Happened twice since last update of plasma KDE any fixes? Have to hard restart with reset button. Multimedia controls work like volume and mute on keyboard. Any ideas?

banger Depending on how long the mouse works for....
Run the following commands to install Maliit virtual keyboard and enable the built-in QT Virtual Keyboard to be available at log-on.
sudo eopkg install maliit-keyboard echo "[General]" | sudo tee -a /etc/sddm.conf echo "InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard" | sudo tee -a /etc/sddm.conf
Enable Maliit keyboard to log back into a Wayland session by selecting it as default virtual keyboard in Settings.
QT Virtual Keyboard needs to be used for initial logon.
Click the "Virtual Keyboard" button at bottom left of the logon screen to bring the keyboard up.

Does it work if you unplug your keyboard and mouse and plug it again, instead of doing a hard reset, to see that it's the USB bus that's not responding

I have since last KDE update having stuttering mouse it moves around screen ok but when doing things it
just becomes unresponsive then comes alive again.
Changed Batteries and all Logitec usb wireless
May or may not be related

Good ideas will try unplugging kb and mouse next time it does it. My other older machine doesn't do it so have changed the lock screen settings to slideshow of wallpapers from picture of the day/Bing that is the only thing different on the two machines. Like all good annoying bugs it is totally random.

What is annoying with a hard reset it corrupts my NTFS partitions so have to boot windows to run chkdsk to fix them or they wont mount in Solus.

I got a bright idea and plugged into the usb3 port instead of the usb2
and my issue went away.

Works on log on screen but the Virtual Keyboard on lock screen does nothing. Have set it to Maliit on the Settings app/virtual keyboard. Another bug?

banger Are you on Wayland or X11 ?
Both Maliit and QT Virtual Keyboard work fine for me on my Solus tablet.
For lock screen, sometimes you need to click into the text box before typing and then use the arrow to the right of the text box instead of just using the Enter button.
Unfortunately virtual keyboard behaviour is a little rudimentary but this setup works for me every day although lock screen does seem to be more difficult to navigate than it used to.
Maybe something that will get fixed with future updates.
Edit: Work round to open a lock screen that will not work can be to log out of current user and then log back on again as the same user.

Well I spent 30 mins testing the ordinary text box and keyboard with 1 minute timeout and changing wallpaper to slideshow and so far so good. Still couldn't get virtual keyboard working on lock screen works fine on login screen when you click switch user.

Wrote a lot of waffle earlier but below is the only bit that was relevant. I think you are stuck with what you have until there is better support for virtual keyboards on Linux.
Log-on screen uses QT Virtual Keyboard whereas Lock-screen uses Maliit.
I think your system is seeing a keyboard and inhibiting Maliit on the Lock-screen. This happens on my laptop with a keyboard but not on my tablet.

There seems to be a lot of people on forums complaining about the lack of a KDE Wayland Plasma 6 virtual keyboard.
At the moment this is a KDE thing so an upstream issue maybe. Keeping hopeful for the future.

You could definitely switch to Gnome in the meantime until KDE fixes everything 😉

AlphaElwedritsch I've spent the last year trying to get away from Gnome (Zorin) as it is too restrictive and getting worse. Plasma is a tweakers DE.

Uh oh my other Plasma machine lock screen locked up so its likely a plasma problem and it has a PS2 keyboard. Tried unplugging the PS2 keyboard but no response on the lock screen mouse is still working but flaky with the password box coming and going with mouse movement.
