I fixed my boot problem from Week 26, 2025 ! 👍🎉
Turns out my Solus Mate partition was 100% full, maybe that's why the lightdm display manager wasn't starting properly?!
At boot I pressed Alt + F3, logged in, then used the cd (change directory) and ls (list) commands to navigate to the folder where I save my Solus iso files.
Then I used the rm (remove/delete) command, which deleted the large iso file while bypassing the Trash folder. This must not have worked in the Solus XFCE Live USB as it was trying to send the large iso file to Trash.
After properly deleting the iso file, I ran the exit command, logged in again, then ran the "shutdown now" command.
After pressing the power button I successfully landed on the login screen for my Solus Mate 🙂👍
I moved a few large iso files to my Windows partition so there's enough free space and this doesn't happen again. At first, I wasn't able to mount my Windows partition, so I had to go to the Gnome Disks app, click the Windows partition, the gear icon for additional partition options, Edit Mount Options, turn off User Session Defaults, go to Identify As, and change that to the last entry which starts with UUID= followed by the long string of numbers and letters.
Everything seems fine now. I guess in a few more weeks/months the Solus Mate transition tool will be ready, at which time I'll migrate to Solus XFCE.
Hope this helps someone else.
Maybe the Solus developers can prevent this from happening to others? Show an adequate warning when lack of free space in the Linux partition would result in a non-booting Solus Mate.
Thanks! 🙂
