gedit v. featherpad

The only app in Solus I have never had a reason to replace is gedit. I'm open to it, I just never find anything that suits me like that.

Featherpad--stuck with dark black background. way too busy looking but I think I can get rid of that look in Settings. Has spell check (see my make believe dinosaur name) but it does not see the Hunspells. According software center I have a crapload of Hunspells installed.

Gedit--let's me pick background. No spell check. Cleaner interface ootb but that's stupid to mention since it's all adjustable.

Cursory opinion after half hour: edge, gedit.

Will keep playing. Something I like about featherpad.

EDIT: I did set dictionary path so disregard. it doesn't underline in red squiggly but one of those 'right-click check spelling as you go' type dealios

brent On my KDE I think it is Kwrite or something made some files
thought it was to heavy so like you Gedit works for me so installed the flatpak
I could not even load the plain text files in gedit and also some kind of comp problem
I forgot what was all going on .
Because I got so pissed off and just gave up for the time being.

Kinda like openoffice tho
Will revisit it when I feel like heck these are just plain text files no program should have trouble handling them

Just thought I would mention it
I think it relates back to something with the KDE program not sure what

I never have. there'd have to be a user benefit the first program could not offer, for sure. not seeing it with featherpad (yet).

I do too. and only office. I will not use 99% of libre-office's buttons in my lifetime...but the dang thing is updated regularly and maintained diligently and that's the only reason I keep it.

does native gnome software run as weirdly on kde as kde software sometimes runs on gnome-based DE's? is that why the flatpak?

best policy. after something like that pisses me off and gets the better of me, I walk away and go back when I'm ready and that often does it

I'll stick with gedit. I won't replace something just for the sake of replacing it, but rather if it brings an improvement. And I don't see that with featherpad. It's good too, but it doesn't bring any improvement.

I like featherpad, and have changed the default associations for files previously associated with gedit to use it. I find it has mostly what I want (except shortcuts for deleting or duplicating lines, but cut, copy and paste, work around that). And find it more usable in general

Subjective of course, and no shortage of choice when it comes to text editors.
