Is there any progress in Budgie development or is it dead?

...We are currently intent on shipping Budgie 10.10 within Q1 2025 (Jan-Mar), however as always we won't ship it unless we consider it ready (at least as ready as we can test)....

Nothing happens anymore. No signs of life anywhere...

Budgie is very much not dead. fossfreedom, Josh, and I are all working on things for Budgie that don't have open PRs or pushes to GitHub. It's all taking longer than we want, but it is what it is.

EbonJaeger To expand on this a little bit, fossfreedom and I are working on moving all of our Budgie session stuff (the bits that start all the Budgie components, and other things like the accessibility bus), from the Budgie Desktop repo to the budgie-session repo. I've also been working on fixing more issues with the Icon Tasklist rewrite and other miscellaneous stuff I find. And Josh's time has been spent on display output configuration and management in Budgie Daemon V2.

I know the big plan is getting Wayland going, but it does seem a bit slow-going. That does not necessarily mean dead, and I doubt that is the case. Looking at the git there is some PR activity on a semi-regular basis, but there is not a lot of action going on in public view. @EbonJaeger would have much more insight as he actively contributes to the project.

EbonJaeger FWIW, I consider what you wrote a perfect fit for a quick blog update. Short, to the point, lets the users know the project has not been quietly abandoned.

Thanks for the update.
But an update on the website and blog would certainly do the project some good. Just my 2 cents.

paracetamol Thank you for your thoughts on it, I do appreciate it. I certainly agree that a blog post is overdue, but I would say Budgie 10.10 is as well! We're well-focused on getting that out the door, then I think there'll be some breathing room for regular blog posts again (since we will have otherwise moved onto 11). At that point we'll be able to play with the regular written content a lot more, such as what we have been experimenting with, new functionality or features, etc.

Trust me when I say translating our current weekly stand-ups at the moment would basic be 99% rants about silliness in session management, compositors and deficiencies in Wayland protocols. If that had gotten old for us by now, it'll have gotten old for you guys a long time ago too 😀

i'm very much patiently waiting for the wayland/VRR/etc. conversion and future of budgie. I feel like ultimately that will be my home as far as desktop environments are concerned. Budgie is very slick and i absolutely love the layouts and configuration you can do with raven. Will be running plasma until then, keep up the good work.
