What do you remove on a fresh installation of Solus?

snowee Any application in Solus repositrory should work on any DE. If not, then it is a bug. Whether or not it looks the part on every DE, it is not something we can do.

default pdf reader > SumatraPDF with *WINE
default file browser > Nemo – or was it default nowdays in Budgie, I can't remember(?).
default torrent > qbittorrent

Pulse-Audio volume control. Just to get access to pro- audio profile switch. Crazy, I know.
*WINE only needed for SumatraPDF. Srcollwheel-click auto-scroll is not available in any Linux pdf-reader. Which I think is more ridicilous, than me installing wine for proper pdf-reader. Crazy, I know.
I would like to have any functioning on-screen virtual keyboard but not available. Crazy, I know.

Then I bloat my machine with music making stuff. And photos of my cat. Hey, that's not so crazy!

qk4-li3 Not sure if it would work for your requirements in a PDF reader, but any of the Chromium-based browsers, including Vivaldi if you enable the auto-scroll (adding --enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll before %U in menu entry or desktop file), you can use Vivaldi (or Chromium based) as a PDF reader and having it auto-scroll with the scroll wheel click.

yep this why I don't do true backups (rsync thats all). I enjoy a fresh install and that "cozy" settling-in time

brent I have my main data synced, and my configs are backed up to that sync as well. With my script, post install takes a few minutes, including fonts, configs, and even the desktop layout/style to a certain level. I do not backup everything, as I do appreciate a clean start when I re-install. Just my main apps that I use.

Staudey For me it is not so much space, as with modern drives, it is not really a concern. I just like my menus and setting cleaner. That said, with a distro like Solus there is just not a lot of bloat at all compared to distros like Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, etc.

This may be alittle off track.
With windows I would install it update it then remove and add just basic stuffs drivers ect really
no User programs.
When I was happy with a slimmed down clean system I would Image it so as with windows when
I needed to restore I wouldnt have to go through eveything again.
Then After I added all my programs I would Image again seems like alot of work but was a great time saver
when needed.

I got Lax on doing it with Linux but have started again just saves alot time prob not so much if you have fast internet and the time to mess with it.

I use Gnome and I remove:

Thunderbird (using web clients for mails)
gnome-console > ghostty
gnome-help (usless)
text editor > gedit (only one proper text editor)
gnom-clocks
gnome-camera

And most important: sudo eopkg rmo always finds something to kick out.
