What do you remove on a fresh installation of Solus?

I'm a guy who like more of the less type and there some apps that I remove after installation for replacement of another app(s). Not questioning the devs decisions but I have my preferences 🙂

On my fresh installation of Solus I remove LibreOffice to replaced with OnlyOffice and firefox gets replaced with Chromium.

Then I install all my other stuff to bloat things up 😃

I voted 1-2. I am more an add add add person than delete. I stopped using Firefox a couple years ago but never removed it. On fresh Budgie installs I did remove Nautilus when it was default. I did get bold enough to remove gnome-terminal because I like Alacritty so much.
I have a dual-boot on a smallish SSD so you really got me thinking now

SethStorm666 solus doesn't support gnome-terminal transparency anymore, and it is a solid terminal but after X amt of years you do outgrow some apps and Alacritty is lighter and brighter to me.

that said....I have never replaced (I tried) gedit at my text editor, since day 1 of Linux, and probably most users have. I hope this gets a lot of POVs because it's a great question.

Similar to you, I remove LibreOffice for OnlyOffice. In addition, on KDE, I remove the default audio and video players. I have a script that removes what I don't want/need and installs the distro and flatpak apps I do.

This is the snippet for my current removal post install...
sudo eopkg remove libreoffice-calc libreoffice-draw libreoffice-impress libreoffice-writer libreoffice-common solus-sc dragon elisa-player

You only need to remove this to uninstall all LibreOffice suite, no need for other libreoffice-* packages.

The only thing I remove is Thunderbird to replace it with Evolution.
You really can't say that a Solus installation ist bloated.
There are a couple of things that I install after a fresh Install: encfs, gnote, rednotebook, fsearch, keepassxc, gpodder, foliate...

Nope and that's one of the things I like with Solus. Keep it simple and minimalistic. What people do beyond that point is their own headache 😃

Sebastian Absolutely agree, and it is one of the things I love. My list for when I would install Fedora KDE had an incredibly long list.

I mostly switched to my preferred alternatives and then add on top of these. Some of these changes will (probably) not be necessary in the next ISO.

Rhytmbox => Decibels+Gapless
Solus SC + Doflicky => Gnome Software
Evince => Papers
Firefox => Zen Browser (Flatpak)
Seahorse => Keyrack (Flatpak)

Gnome System Monitor => Resources (Flatpak)

gapless and showtime are my defaults too. the best two apps no one ever talks about. papers is nice too for pdfs.
and god knows I love my Solus but I don't use any browsers from our repo: just flatpaks
have to check out resources.

I would love to see Ptyxis, Amberol, Papers, Refine, Resources should all be default Gnome apps on Solus!

Solus looks presentable and nice with default setup. It really comes to the preferences and biases. But sometimes the software included does not work as intended, for example, Elisa player clicks and pops on low end machines with a pipewire buffering issues.

Oh, and it would be nice to install only the essential LibreOffice bits, Writer and Calc. Installation is stressing 32GB eMMC machines too much already.

On my HTPC I removed LibreOffice. Maybe I removed default music and video players because I use my favorite ones. But I am fine to keep them because they are small packages.

snowee I'm using showtime & gapless on budgie right now. I have used papers, too (but went back to evince). know nothing about decibels.

snowee Any application in Solus repositrory should work on any DE. If not, then it is a bug. Whether or not it looks the part on every DE, it is not something we can do.
