Can't mount windows partition

This is the windows partiton on another drive and I don't want to make mistakes.

@BuzzPCSOS suggested a disk check with a dedicated software. I would eventually use KDE Partition Manager if it helps. I'm on Solus 4.7.

I couldn't get any Linux tool to fix that.

I use an USB stick with Hirens BootCD installed.
Open shell then cd to the drive in question and run chkdsk /F.

This works for me.

I had this recently and no matter what I did in Solus nothing cured it. Had to reboot into Win 11 and CMD chkdsk /F then it would mount.

If it's a Windows partition then Linux only has limited repair opportunities. Using a Virtual install of Windows is one option or using a Windows repair disk is another. Always make sure they have come from a reputable source before letting them loose on your data.

Hirens is prob best for most average users its been around awhile and its been updated.
I use NTFS but never had this problem gets my brain cells going thinking about it but I dont dual boot
and I always always make sure I eject if its Usb or plug in drive before I even attempt to unplug it
So maybe thats why I never had an issue (I am religious about ejecting and making sure)

So maybe thats why.

Note: And if I think something funky is going on I shut down computer before unplugging
thats usually does stuff in the correct order to not cause issues

As already mentioned, Linux tools are very limited with NTFS. Your best bet, as others have said, is to use chkdsk to check the disk and make any necessary repairs.

Well thanks everybody. I performed a chkdsk /F from Windows and it solved the problem in Solus.

I have found a bad reboot in Solus sometimes causes this on SSD/NVME. Sometimes waiting for the reboot takes a minute or two with current kernels.

The trouble is I need to perform chkdsk /F each time from Windows before I run Solus.

This might be caused by Windows Fast Startup or hibernation. When enabled, Windows doesn't fully shut down but leaves the NTFS partition in a hibernated state. That can prevent Linux from mounting it safely, and you may need to run chkdsk /f every time before accessing it.
To fix this permanently, you should:

Disable Fast Startup:
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable” → Uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)” → Save changes.

Disable hibernation:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

powercfg /h off

Always perform a full shutdown instead of hibernation:

Use the command:

shutdown /s /t 0
