Can I test Solus 4.8 Epoch if there’s an ISO available? Also, why does Solus keep the X11 server in GNOME even though upstream deprecated it starting with GNOME 50?

ISOs aren't made available until the epoch is done and the new version is released. But Solus is a rolling release anyways, so Installing from 4.7 and updating your system will get you the most up-to-date configuration available.

I have no clue. I'm a happy Budgie user, not a GNOME developer 🤷‍♂️
If I had to guess though, I'd bet X11 will be kept as long as it isn't hurting anything. Maybe removing it now would break things for some people, but idk.

eric0d We are aware of the upstream plan. We still ship Gnome 48 and it still supports X11. Gnome 49 will still support X11 (albeit hidden behind build flag now) and we intend to still ship it too. This ensure soft landing for any user that still hasn't moved to wayland (for whatever reason).

Solus Gnome has been default to Wayland for quite sometime now, whether it still ship X11 session doesn't really affect user experience that much. So, until upstream no longer supports it, we will still ship the X11 session.

Of course the plan can change, who knows 🙂
