amit025 Hi all, I want to install GNOME DE on my install that I did with Budgie. No complaints about Budgie; I have been using it for years with zero issues. There is an older thread on the topic, but I wanted to see if there is newer information about installing before I pressed ahead. Here is the link to the previous forum post from 2019: https://discuss.getsol.us/d/1011-install-gnome.
stocc Sebastian @amit025, the help centre article is out of date I believe. In addition to the packages listed there you'll need at least gnome-control-center. I'm not sure if anything else is required, but possibly also mutter will be needed. It's been a while since I had both Gnome and Budgie installed, so I'm going from memory (which isn't as good as it once was...)
amit025 Sebastian stocc, Thanks for responding! I have installed the desktop before on other distros, but it is always a good idea to check the forums first. You never know when there will be weirdness.
Staudey Yeah, adding gnome-control-center to that command, as @stocc said should cover everything. (in theory at least, I haven't tried it)
AlphaElwedritsch Occasionally such a project can also be a good resolution for spring cleaning. 😉 Unless you have invested too much data and too much work in your system that reinstalling it is too much work. But, as I said, you can often clean out as a result...
