flanier The only thing I see that looks somewhat related is "PackageKit backend"

Yeah, for some reason solus-sc shows the wrong name. That is indeed "Discover"

Fresh installation of plasma went well. I had an older version on dvd and was upgraded post installation. There was a system maintenance on the first boot of the new version. I let this run with no problems.

Downloaded and verified. Boots ok from my Ventoy USB.

is the iso download supposed to be this slow? roughly 1.8 MB/s
or should i wait until tomorrow

If you continue to download at this speed, it will also be tomorrow 🤣

Many thanx. No Problems of 4.7 inside a virtualized qemu environment

I've been running 4.7 on my 2 machines for a couple of days now. Everything works flawlessly. Special thanks for the guys packaging KDE Plasma.

4.7 it is 🙂

[always love the flatpak count--I have 5 apps...with 21 dep packages...this never used to get so bloated 'back in the day' did it? or am I just remembering it wrong?]

Unfortunately, it is less a review and more a simple list of features and packages. I wonder why Ferdinand didn't tell us what he thinks of the release?

brent I dont really look at is as bloated we know there is overhead that they wont
need in the future when the transitions settle down.
So way I see it flatpaks put the extra stuff but thats why one has choice to use them not
But Basic I think the Os is Prob still in good shape (still far cry to what windows turned into)
    (Just thinking)

I do remember a time when if I had 5 flatpak packages many had no rundeps and the rest had 1-2. I honestly don't know when all this org.freedesktop stuff started swelling up. But I am honest enough to say I don't even know what that stuff is. You are right though, they are minimal MB.
Thought: maybe Flatpak count is a FastFetch thing vs a neofetch thing and I'm not crazy?

As far as choice? 🙂. I will be diplomatic and say my hand is forced because I could never get 2 repo packages to ever function despite years of bug tickets (Crow and SMTube) so I had to replace them with [Dialect and Freetube]. Solus has a cli youtube player(s) that rocks though.

edit: I think for a long stretch I really tried to be one of the 'repo only' - type Solus users that I always envied. I have a healthy respect for those that can make do. It shames me a little to say I needed a couple things we didn't have because I am your complete 'basic' user. Hooray for flatpak and foss.
The linux adventure for me has been 100X better than the WIN life...

Just installed Solus for the first time, replaced my Ubuntu 24.04 install I use daily on my gaming PC. So far so good!
VERY fast, much nicer UI and usability. Really the only two things I'm missing is the hot corner in the top left of Gnome (the rest of Budgie is too good, I don't want to use Gnome on this distro). And I would like Wayland but that's probably minor.

Incredible distro, I hope I can help in the future in some small way.

alfisya GNOME software seems to use it's own decorations and doesn't pick up the Budgie desktop theme. Can this be changed? I prefer my apps to adhere to my chosen theme. Thanks.

stocc Gnome Software uses gtk4+libadwaita and they don't really support theming. (If anyone want to discuss this decision, please create another thread). Only light and dark mode are available.

It is possible to workaround it but not very easy. You need to edit the gtk4 css file/directory manually. Some themes have the instructions for it on their repo. Or you can use adw-gtk3-theme to make other (gtk) apps looks like gtk4+libadwaita. You probably already have a preferred theme.

sadnehs Incredible distro, I hope I can help in the future in some small way.

Thank you for the kind words and your interest in contributing ! You can read more about how to get involved here. Cheers!

alfisya Thanks @alfisya. That's a pity. I've just installed Solus, partly because my previous distro had made some recent theming decisions which required me to edit css files to get it back to the way I liked it. I liked the look of Budgie in Solus, but I do like consistency, so I think I'll stick with the current software centre until such time as it's removed. Then, I guess I'll have a decision to make...

BTW ... during installation Calamares is displaying 4.6 which can be of some confusion for certain people.
            Thanks for the fresh release
