PC randomly freezes

I've been experiencing some random freezes in which the mouse still moves a bit, but after a few seconds it starts moving slowly. The keyboard does not respond so I’m not able to go to another terminal with CTRL +ATL+F…, so have to hard reset the PC.

The issues started like 3 weeks ago, after a system update. I have been applying the weekly updates to see if it can be fixed but the problem is still there. It happens randomly, for what I can see. Whether while using the web browser (Opera), or GIMP.

Last on was a few minutes ago. I have been using the PC watching Netflix for about an hour, then closed that tab, tried to open AnyDesk for work and after it started the PC freezed again.

Is it possible to access some kind of system report to check the latest events and try to identify the trigger of those “system freezes”?

System specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 3 3200G
Mother: ASUSTeK PRIME B450M-A
RAM: 16 GB

Solus 4.6 Convergence - 64 bits
Budgie: 10.9.2
Kernel: Linux 6.12.9-312.current

GustiStereo It is also worth looking at some housekeeping essentials. Make sure CPU and GPU are keeping to a reasonable temperature, make sure cooling fans and filters are not clogged. Look at hard drive smart data using the Linux version of Hard Disk Sentinel or similar.
Finally check installed RAM to make sure that there are no issues there.

This is not a hardware issue. It's a bug in mesa 24.3.x, exclusively messing up Raven Ridge / Vega AMD GPU.

This issue is actively discussed in the Arch forum: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=301798&p=9. Also, many users from other rolling release distros opened tickets for this issue at mesa.

It's still not clear what is causing the freezing. There seem to be multiple bugs in mesa 24.3.x. mesa 24.2.x seems to work fine. Some guys at arch are currently testing mesa 25.0.0-devel. Looks promising, but the bugs from 24.3.x could easily end up in 25.0.0 as well.

From my experience, you should avoid ..

Resizing windows.
Using Chromium based browsers (Chrome / Vivaldi, etc.)
Doing right clicks on files.
Switching virtual desktops.

or use other distros, if you can hop easily. Debian Trixie (coming this summer) will still deliver mesa 24.2.x.

Oh, it sounds so painfully familiar. It looks like the page flipping issue is spreading out. Last summer I was hit by a deadly combination of Plasma adaptive sync with their frame buffering experiments and MESA GL threading experiments (AMD RX6600)

It took me three months of pain to figure it out:
set "MESA_GLTHREAD=single" system wide
disable adaptive sync for a desktop (in Plasma it is "Never")
reboot

No freezes since then. Hope it will help you too.
