Disks get mounted as read only

I am using Caja to mount my disks that I wan't to use for storage. However when I click on them in the left side menu, they get mounted but as root. So I can't add anything to them. Is there a solution for this?

androidnisse I'm not familiar with Caja or that kind of data but to me it kind of looks like the device you are trying to mount had an operating system on it previously. Could it be that it was password protected?
You might be able to gain write permission in Caja by right clicking on the root of the drive you are trying to mount and altering the permissions for that drive to read and write data.
Worth a shot. There is a way to change read and write permissions from terminal but there should also be a perfectly viable way using your file manager.

Are these disks that you want mounted all the time? If so, why not describe them in /etc/fstab and simply mount them from the command line with sudo mount -a? That's what I do with the shares from my NAS, and although they're owned by "root root" the permissions are "rwx rwx rwx", so they can be accessed by any user.

No these are disks that I have formatted. So no old OS on them.

This one worked, took ownership of the disks. And now I can use them.

You can simply install gnome-disk available on the repo and use it to take ownership as here explained for automount drive
