  • UI/UX suggestion for the new software center

The software center according to the plans is being rewritten in Q2. And we're currently in the middle of it. So let's just jump into it.

  1. Get rid of the search tab. Instead, put a search functionality in the Home and Installed Tab. Also, you should be able to search within a category in the Home tab if this feature is implemented. Also, you can choose to see software, dependencies, theme. It's excruciating to go the installed tab, and only see a bunch of dependencies cluttering it.
  2. Enable us to install and uninstall package without having to enter the package's page. With this, install/uninstalling a package only require one click. Currently, it requires 3 (including the fact that you need to get out of the package's page) and a lot of cursor travel. If I know what I'm installing, I shouldn't have to go to the package's page to click install.
  3. Enable us to select multiple package by pressing ctrl and choose to install or uninstall packages that have been selected with the headerbar button
  4. Installed tab won't have a download button in the headerbar or indicators that the package is installed for obvious reason

For whom who may concerns, I use Inkscape in making these mock-ups.

I tip my to hat to you sir, for the drive, creativity, and the rundep button!

A IGNORE permanently options for new software's in Updates > Other Updates would be nice...as of now need to scroll down and select the new application to install and leave the remaining and it's a big list. if i select everything and update (Other Updates) then i end up with unwanted/unused software in the system.

I did discuss this in other tread but i could not explain properly in that tread. (I think i confused everyone)
tread starts from :

@Fatih19 Nearly all of this was already addressed in Ikey's work on the next Software Center. You are making suggestions based on out-of-date information.

DataDrake The Solus dev team is so great that they pre-emptively implement a suggestion before it's suggested.

DataDrake Hi I always update all 3 Updates (Required, Security and Other). you mean Other updates doesn't list new application/s ?

Fatih19 I thought u r Dev team member and asking suggestion to users...lol

viyoriya Other is anything not classified as Required (system.base) or Security (CVE). It only lists installed packages. You have to confirm in a dialog new packages when you update or install. Other should not be interpreted as Optional either.
