  • Black screen booting from Live USB

Hello everyone. Just have tried to install solus badgie and gnome, but have faced a problem. After selecting boot options(default, nvidia and debug) i get a black screen no matter what options and distros I choose.

my specs:

  • rtx 4070
  • ryzen 7 5800x

How to fix it?

I had the same problem when trying to boot into a live solus budgie session on a 4xxx series nvidia card. Tried all 3 options but was just stuck with a black screen and trying to switch to a tty(? i think thats what its called) didnt seem to work either

A few things to try if possible.

    1. Check the iso is good against it's checksum. There are instructions in the help centre.
    2. Try booting from a USB made by a different manufacturer.
    3. If the USB socket on your PC has a blue block in it then try a USB stick that is not USB 3.0 spec. On some computers the boot software is not USB 3.0 compatible which can cause random failure.
    4. Try booting from a different distro. Not Solus.
    5. Let us know how you get on, which can help other users.

I think it's probably the GPU. I myself have a 4000 series GPU (4070 Ti).
I have the same problem with Debian, I tried Ubuntu, it works fine. And now I'm on Kubuntu.
The checksum is good, I've tried it with several USB (SanDisk, Samsung ...), I've tried it on several USB ports...
I'm going to follow Solus progress and wait for a solution to be found.

EDIT : I've tried Balena Etcher, USB Imager, and two other solutions whose names I've lost, but they don't change the problem.

TraceyC changed the title to Black screen booting from Live USB .
