Hello Solus Community,
File manager Nautilus doesn't launch anymore after last system upgrade. I got following error message:

`gus@portablegregre ~ $ nautilus
** Message: 22:10:26.979: Connecting to org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files
MESA-INTEL: warning: ../src/intel/vulkan/anv_formats.c:763: FINISHME: support YUV colorspace with DRM format modifiers
MESA-INTEL: warning: ../src/intel/vulkan/anv_formats.c:794: FINISHME: support more multi-planar formats with DRM modifiers

(org.gnome.Nautilus:1990): Gdk-WARNING **: 22:10:27.751: The program 'org.gnome.Nautilus' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 968 error_code 8 request_code 149 (unknown) minor_code 4)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)`

Any help would be much appreciated!

  • I switched to Nemo and uninstalled Nautilus, all is good now.
    Many thanks for your answers!
    Cheers,

Can you tell us what edition (desktop environment) you are using ?

    Gregre I am using budgie.

It's not a bug, It's a feature. Nautilus was deprecated from budgie and Nemo is replacing it, I would recommend to install Nemo and remove Nautilus from Solus Budgie. Nemo works very well for what nautilus does.
There is a reason of what it was removed from Solus Budgie but I can't recall it or where it is.

For the record Nautilus should work perfectly fine on budgie it does on my VM.

yesterday update removed tracker from my system, could that be the root of the problem?

Harvey I did not know that. When did it get well, so to speak?

        brent
It always worked. Nautilus deprecated desktop icon support however so Nemo made more sense as a default.

Harvey I remember that thing biting me up pretty bad for a while til we replaced it. thanks for the info.

          Nemo works fine 😃
Note that you may not remove nautilus-extension because of dependencies gnome-terminal file-roller
